This would be the view of a (ever-so-slightly far-sighted) bumblebee in the park. High on the season’s first pollen. Feel the buzz in the interactive version.

For this panorama, I suspended the camera and pano-head from a tripod with the center-column turned upside-down. The front of the lens was about a 3 cm from the closest flower heads. I used a prerelease of Photoshop CS5 (wohoo!) to remove the tripod legs.

PS: this bunch of flowers marks the 100th equirectangular panorama I have posted to my Flickr gallery.

The Selection Tool in Adobe Photoshop and How to Use in Your Photo Editing and Graphic Logo Design Work

There is no photo editing or graphic design project that you cannot accomplish using Adobe Photoshop if you are thoroughly familiar with the tools available.

The tool that seems to be necessary for nearly every application in Photoshop is the selection tool. The selection tool isolates objects for the purpose of editing specific areas of your image without effecting the entire image.

The selection tool in Photoshop is actually four tools depending on your particular task. The selection tool includes the Rectangular Marquee Tool, the Elliptical Marquee Tool, the Single Row Marquee Tool and the Single Column Marquee Tool.

What can you do with the selection tool in Photoshop? The following are just a few examples of projects or applications you might being doing in Photoshop and how the selection tool can make your life easier.

Cropping

Cropping images requires that you use the selection tool to designate the section of the image to be removed or cropped.

Adding Text to Images

If you plan to add text to an image or graphic design you can also designate the area to add the text using the selection tool.

Isolated Color Work

Lets say you want to adjust the saturation or hue of a particular object in a photography. The selection tool will allow you to isolate the object and then adjust the color as needed. You can adjust the entire selected area or isolated color channels.

These examples are obviously a very small sample of the ways you might use the selection tool in Photoshop. In fact, the selection tool is used for hundreds of different photo editing projects or more.

The selection tool in Adobe Photoshop is probably one of the most important tools that you will use in your photo editing and graphic logo design work.

As you learn Photoshop be sure to develop a solid grounding in the use of the selection tool.

Question by Michalka: Adobe connect: Can you show live screens as you work to participants?
I am designing a learning plan for a software instruction webinar.

I would like the facilitator to be able to demonstrate the software instructions to his participants visually as he actually carries out the task.

Can Adobe Connect do this? Is there a better program for this type of training?

Q&A: How do you stop Photoshop CS3 from cropping work upon opening?

Question by guardian_hero0001: How do you stop Photoshop CS3 from cropping work upon opening?
Whenever I open a certain file in CS3 (only does this to one file so far but I only opened 3 files over all) it crops it to about half its proportions and doesn’t allow me to not crop it. How do I fix it? I already deleted my preferences by pushing alt+shift+ctrl and that didn’t work. I know the file itself isn’t cropped as it opens in Illustrator just fine. What is going on and why isn’t it allowing me to fix it?

Best answer:

Answer by tatyinha
Are you sure the file is being cropped ot just not being displayed on your screen?

Try clicking on the magnifying glass (the zoom tool) and selecting ‘fit screen’ and see if the entire file is being showed.

Another thing you can do is check the image size, click on Image > Image Size… see if it still has the same dimensions the original file had. If it shows here that it has a different file size than the original, there might be something wrong with the file (as the file being cropped is not normal behavior in Photoshop). You can try saving the file with a different name and format in Illustrator and see if that solves the problem.

Also while you have the file in Illustrator, make sure that the content is ALL inside the art board, anything outside the art board, is not considered part of the canvas in Photoshop and therefore not shown, you can change that by changing the canvas size of clicking on the item what is showing as being cut while you have the move tool selected (and make sure the ‘show transform controls’ option is selected) and resize it to be shown inside the canvas.

Brochure Design Tricks That Work

Brochure Design Tricks That Work

It doesn’t matter that you have an outstanding product, or even excellent customer service; as long as your marketing medium look more depressing than the others in your industry, you wouldn’t be able to convince your prospective clients to think otherwise.

Not only do your marketing pieces (such as your brochure printing items) reflect your company and the way you do business, but they also provide that strong image that can make or break your business profits. Nowadays, your brochure printing materials, or any other marketing pieces, for that matter, influence your potential clients more than any other visual presentation to make the right decision about your business.

More than likely that your brochure printing project can get attention and respect than what improvements you’ve done to your products or services. The fact remains that what your target clients see and read from your brochures are essentially the things that will give them the impression regarding your business.

To make your target clients see you for the excellent quality service that you provide, you may want to create your next brochure printing project with the following tricks up your sleeve.

Make use of quality graphics, clipart, and pictures that are within your grasp. What you don’t have (like talent for design for example) should not stop you from creating a design that is worth looking at. There are so many sources of graphics and images that you can use for your brochure printing project.

And it doesn’t have to cost you much. In fact, you can have professional and quality illustrations for a minimal fee, and sometimes even for free. For one, there’s the Internet that has a wide variety, as well as the most number of clipart and stock photos that you can use to improve your brochure printing design. Another popular source is your personal computer which has more than enough clipart functions for you to explore.

However, you must use your clipart and images with caution and with limitation. You don’t have to put everything you can get your hands on. Use only those that can help you emphasize your brochure printing message.

Improve your brochure printing layout by highlighting important content and putting them outside of their standard place. You can use text balloons and quotation marks with colored background to help you emphasize a point.

Make use of elements consistently throughout your brochure printing layout. Use the same elements in your design and layout to create harmony in your overall appearance.

Make sure to take note of proximity among your elements. Take note of the spaces in between your photos, content, and even your letters.

Make use of fonts that are easier to read, especially if you have heavy text and content.

These are simple tricks that you can use. For your next brochure printing project, you might want to try them out and see how successful your print brochures can get.
