Taking Advantage of Png Files in Windows Vista? Icons and Web Design
Png’s are one of the most popular graphic files but unlike the gif and jpg formats its usage has not yet widely extended to the website design field. Before moving to the subject of the icons themselves, it is worth to mention that the new version of Internet Explorer 7 bundled with Windows Vista™ finally fully supports png as long as other well known web explorers, so the enhanced capabilities of this format can be exploited to the full extent.
The Vista interface distinctively supports a huge size for icons, 256 x 256 pixels, which can be seen by choosing Extra Large Icons in the View submenu, right-clicking on any blank area of the explorer window or the desktop. In this mode view the icons can show an almost photographic amount of details.
So, at the time of rendering an image file to be used as the 256 px icon, a number of effects can be applied in order to get an attractive icon. One is the shadow of the depicted object, which needs to follow the same perspective as the whole icon. But additionally the icons can also have glowing effects, for example for lightning parts of an object that will smoothly fade over the background (png can handle several levels of transparency) and also glass effects and areas showing translucency. Just like shadows, other semi transparent mediums like water, smoke or sparks must be prevented from being cropped outside the canvas of the image.
A quality Vista icon can be nearly photographic, however it is recommended to follow certain rules so the icon will appear naturally inserted into the Vista graphic look. It is good to use less saturation than the standard used in Windows XP™ since this is one of the main characteristics of the Aero™ visual style. In the same way, the icon should communicate its message with even more accuracy than a real image of an object, so its representation will need a complete balance between the use of complex effects and a soft clean general look. Finally, semi transparent effects should not be used in the icon versions of 24 and 16 px.
The endless possibilities now available in Windows Vista icons can be found at www.iconshock.com where you can find professional examples of icons in multiple styles suitable for any visual environment.

How compatible are Adobe premier elements with Windows Vista photoshop elements tutorial
In the product line of Adobe, Premiere Elements is wonderful video editing software useful for amateurs and professionals alike. The software supports a lot of programs and you can even edit the animations you created using other programs. Windows Vista is an Operating System from the house of Microsoft. It is in the line of NT products and offers good backwards compatibility. This is from both hardware and software perspective.
Windows Vista is a continuation of the NT line of products, and not something completely new. As you might expect from an evolutionary upgrade, Windows Vista offers excellent backwards compatibility, both from a hardware and software perspective.
Windows Vista is compatible with certain versions of Adobe Premiere Elements. Those versions of the Adobe Premiere Elements which are compatible with Windows Vista of the 32 bit version, the 64 bit version of Windows Vista is not compatible. The 3.0 and 4.0 versions of Adobe Premiere Elements are supported on the 32 bit version of Windows Vista. To ensure the compatibility with Vista, you must first upgrade Adobe Premiere Elements to 3.0.2. The 2.0 and 1.0 versions are not supported on Windows Vista.
When you update your Adobe Premiere Elements to 3.0.2 version, there are certain improvements you get. The 4.0 version supports dual core or multiple processor systems like the hyper-threading technology and advanced multi-threading technology on the latest Intel Pentium processors which run on Windows Vista. For Windows Vista, the system requires a minimum of 1 GB RAM.
Initially when the Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 version was recently released, it was not at all compatible with any bit version of Microsoft Windows Vista. Shortly after Vista became available to the requested customers, Adobe released the upgraded versions to run on Vista. The existing versions of Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 can be upgraded by a free download available at the official web site of Adobe.
Depending on the type of media you work with, the minimum system requirements for Adobe Premiere Elements can vary. To optimize your Vista OS to give the required performance with Premiere Elements, you can customize it. This way you increase the system resources available and the applications run effectively. To improve the performance you can optimize your hard drive, delete the temporary files, and disable the unwanted applications running.
When you optimize Vista, you are eliminating the problems that can arise pertaining to the compatibility and interfering with video editing tasks. Always ensure that your hard disk speed is the recommended one for the application. You must also optimize the IDE disks and verify that the device drivers support Vista.
If you face further problems with the compatibility, it may be because the program is not installed properly. Due to this the primary functions of the program or system may not function properly. The clients using Vista are provided the KB932246, which contains the patches in the older release of the compatibility update, through the Windows update automatically. You can also download and install it manually.
The software compatibility is much better on the 32 bit version of Vista than the 64 bit version.
Shortcuts to modern applications sure look different in Windows XP and Windows Vista. Why? The graphic designers of those products used a semi-transparency effect to smooth edges of the icons in order to better blend with the environment.
Can you produce the same effect with icons that you design? Anyone can! The big question is: what tools are you going to use?
While Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw have been around for a while, buying and learning a heavyweight professional suite is overkill for an icon designer. Besides, these tools are really not meant to cope well with the needs of a small-arts designer. Let alone their inability to save more than a single format or resolution into an icon file, crafting Windows XP icons puts certain requirements that are simply not there with the big guys.
Making icon images requires close attention to every dot on the screen, as every pixel is extremely important considering that icons get as small as 16 by 16. On the other hand, you simply don’t need 99% of the features that bloat the Adobe and Corel products. What use are color profiles, red-eye reduction and the various artificial color models such as LAB and CMYK for a Windows icon image? Do you really need all the artistic filters found in Photoshop that work great for high-resolution photographs but leave nothing but some sort of soup of a small icon image with counted pixels? Finally, are ready for the substantial investment of your time and money to learn the product and pay the bill?
There’s really no need to pay hundreds of dollars for an image editor that you won’t fully use. Drawing small object requires specific approach and highly specialized tools. You need an icon editor.
Icon editors come in various flavors. There are small simple tools such as Paint included with Windows, and there are tools designed to manage collections of desktop icons and do simple manipulations with them. Obviously, if you want to draw icons from a scratch, you need an icon editor that allows just that.
Icon XP ( http://www.aha-soft.com/iconxp/index.htm ) fits the bill as a near-perfect icon editor. While not nearly as huge and expensive as Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw, Icon XP is no Microsoft Paint either. Aimed at professional and amateur icon artists and small-art designers, Icon XP has everything that is necessary to create great-looking icons with that modern slick flair.
Giving you an ability to save icon images as ICO, ICPR, BMP, JPEG, CUR, PNG, GIF, RC, XPM, XBM, WBMP and Adobe Photoshop PSD files image formats, Icon XP is well-suited for icon work. While not as complex as the big players, Icon XP is still a very capable icon editing tool. Gradients, transparency and semi-transparency support with alpha-channel allow making slick XP icons that blend into desktop. Design icons from a scratch, or touch-up existing images equally easy. Icon XP is a single fast, small, inexpensive icon editor that is easy to learn and to use by every professional and amateur icon designer.
