Adobe Illustrator Vector Tracing Tutorial (Gradient Mesh)
some time ago I had the opportunity to provide a material in a workshop on digital art on my campus, at that time I give the material about the Adobe Illustrator vector tracing by using the gradient mesh tool.
maybe some people will ask, why use adobe illustrator? my answer is because adobe illustrator has a special tool that is not owned by vector graphics software that is a kind of gradient mesh tool.
then why the gradient mesh tool so special? the answer is the gradient mesh tool is a tool by adobe illustrator that allows users to create a mesh for the given color at each point on the object that we make. after the object that we created has been given a further mesh we will do is give any color on its point and will generate a dynamic gradation.
There are many ways to give color to the gradient mesh, the first one we can use the eyedropper tool, this tool can provide color as color samples we take from a particular object, the way we can just click the mesh point and then we select a sample color that we want. the second one we can use the dodge tool fill, in this way we will find the color palette manually on the available.
more and more mesh points, the more gradations of color and certainly will produce results more detailed.
Other tools that will help is the pen tool, retacle tool and oval tool. pen handy tool to create a shape object with a very free, how to use them together with the pen tool hampis owned by adobe photoshop. retacle useful tool to make a box-shaped object, usually I use to create the basic shape of the face, then I give a gradient mesh and subsequently lived in accordance with sata set the shape that I want to save a direct selection tool. Another tool is the oval tool, its use is almost the same as retacle tool, except that only the object that produced circular.
actually on corel draw there is also the gradient mesh tool, but the color gradation on the gradient mesh tool in the core draw I can say is very far from satisfactory, the result is still very rough and difficult to be controlled, in contrast with adobe illustrator who has the gradient mesh tool very flexible. maybe in the next version corel draw there will be changes to this tool, I very much hope, because I also really like corel draw.
some sites provide many examples of vector art, one of the most famous is deviantart.com, apada searching box enter the keyword “gradient mesh tracing” or “illustrator vector”. you also can visit my deviantART gallery in chelycoholic.deviantart.com.
I also provide some information, the results of my work and my tutorial on my blog, namely: kucintku.blogspot.com.
you can see an example of the results along with a tutorial mesh vector tracing on the link below:
