How To Cut Out Image Using Adobe Photoshop Software Selection Tools – How To Create A Frame for a Photo
This is actually a fairly simple task — although many of the Photoshop authors make it seem more difficult than it really is. Using logic, the portion of the image to be popped out of the frame must be separated from the original image and raised to a higher level, in front of the frame, while leaving the original photo in tact. This technique works in any image software which has layers.
1. Cut out the image: Using any of the software’s selection tools you wish, make an accurate selection of the portion of the image you wish to pop. In this example we used a combination of the Lasso and Magnetic Lasso to carve out the front of the car. Tip: to save time, cut only the part that will pop out.
Lift the image: Once your selection is accurate, and ready to go, duplicate it onto its own layer by using the “float” command (Cmd/J or Ctrl/J)
You can see the nose of the Jaguar is now on its own layer. (#1 in the layers palette) Note that it’s just the nose — no use to select more than you have to. It will match perfectly with the original image on the background layer and provide a seamless pop-out.
]]>
2. Create the Frame: Now, in a new layer, you can create the frame for the photo. Here we simply used a white background with the frame cut out. Layer #2 in the diagram.
At this point you can decorate or modify the frame any way you wish — textures, borders, etc. Key Concept: Layer Sequencing. Always remember that the stacking order of your layers affects the final product. As you look at the file, you’ll understand that the layers were generated in that specific stack order to achieve the effect — even though they may not have been created in that order.
Also note that we did all the selection work on a COPY of the background, just in case we flubbed something up, or needed to go back and get more of the image. The “work” layer can be deleted, and the whole image flattened when complete.

Getting Accustomed with Flash Tools to Modify Simple Graphics in Flash CS4
There are different ways employed by flash page designers to modify graphics using Adobe Flash CS4. Designers can easily edit or change an object’s attribute with the help of a property inspector and selection tools. These options provide the freedom to design and modify graphics for a flash web page. Let us learn how sub-selection, selection and free transform tool is used to modify graphics: Using subselection tools to modify a line segment: You can reshape a single line with the help of a subselection tool because it provides accurate control in reshaping the line segment by allowing you to maneuver the anchor points. What you need to do is position the subselection tool’s pointer over the end point of the line segment. You will see an anchor point, just click and drag to change its location. A subselection tool is also used to modify the curves of an object. While an arrow tool has limited capabilities to modify curves, a subselection tool has the ability to modify a line into different variations of curves, that’s the reason why a flash page designer always uses this tool. Using Arrow Tool to Reshape a Line Segment into a Curve: An arrow tool can be used to reshape a line segment into a curve. You will have to click on the line, place the arrow tool in the middle of the line segment and look for a curve sign beside it. Just click and drag to create a curve. Using the Free Transform Tool to Change the Size of Graphic Elements: The free transform tool plays a key role in modifying graphic elements scaling and resizing them. All you need to do is select the free-transform tool, click on the object to be resized, select the scale modifier and click and drag the scale handle to narrow or widen it. Flash CS4 Professional boasts many such tools that helps produce great flash sites. Macromedia Flash web design is all about knowing your tools abilities to modify graphic objects.

Most people assume that if you’re using brushes in Adobe Illustrator, you must be creating “art.” While this is true sometimes, you can also use brushes in production techniques to save time. I use brushes for many kinds of artwork, including drawing zippers, shirt collars, picket fences, and many other features.
Illustrator comes with five different types of brushes (calligraphic, scatter, art, bristle, and pattern) that reflect the breadth and depth of the results that brushes can achieve. In this article, we’ll focus on two types of brushes that I use with a lot of my production techniques: art brushes and pattern brushes.
In this article, I’ll cover the following:

Creating Art Brushes
Art brushes are a special animal, misunderstood by most people. You create some artwork, save it as an art brush, and then apply that brush to a path or shape. The art you created is stretched around the path or perimeter of the shape—usually with tragic results.
video tutorialsshows a wonderful example of an art brush applied to a square. I found this art brush by clicking the Brush Libraries Menu button in the lower-left corner of the Brushes panel and choosing Decorative > Decorative_Banners and Seals. I also changed the Stroke Weight of the path to .5 pt in the control panel.
Figure 1 An art brush applied to a square.
Let’s create an art brush by using existing artwork:
With a document open, expand the Brushes panel (see video tutorials). Click the Brush Libraries Menu button in the lower-left corner of the Brushes panel and choose Decorative > Decorative_Text Dividers. Drag one of the banners from the list onto the artboard. (As video tutorials shows, I chose the “Text Divider 20″ banner.) A great feature is that once most brushes are made, you can get back the original artwork!

Make some changes to the artwork; for example, alter the color, or something like that.
CAUTION
Something to keep in mind: Illustrator doesn’t like gradients in art brushes!
To create your new art brush, select all of the artwork on the artboard. Click the New Brush button to make a brush from the selected artwork. In the New Brush dialog box, select Art Brush and click OK (see video tutorials).
Figure 4 The New Brush dialog box.
In the Art Brush Options dialog box, you can set tons of options. For this example, select Stretch Between Guides, as shown in video tutorials. This great feature, new in CS5, allows you to tell Illustrator what to “stretch” (repeat) around the shape. Dotted lines appear in the preview window in the dialog box. Drag them close to each other. The part of the artwork between the dotted lines is what Illustrator “stretches” (repeats).
Figure 5 Editing the options for the new art brush.
In the Colorization section of the dialog box, choose Tints and Shades from the Method pop-up list. This feature allows you to colorize the brush after applying it to some artwork.
TIP
Like the Tints and Shades method, two other methods let you apply a color to the brush after it’s applied to artwork, but with somewhat different results:
Tints applies the selected stroke color only in tints. Hue Shift lets you sample a single color in the brush, but this option changes only the sampled color.
When you’re done making your selections in the Art Brush Options dialog box, click OK. Your new brush is saved in the Brushes panel. Create a circle, line, or other shape and apply the new art brush by selecting it in the Brushes panel or from the control panel (see Figure 6).
NOTE
Now you can delete the original brush artwork that you used to make the brush on the artboard.
Figure 6 Applying the art brush.
TIP
To change the size of the art brush as the artwork is stretched along a path, change the Stroke Weight setting.
To edit your new art brush, double-click it in the Brushes panel. If you want to edit properties for the brush when it’s applied to an object (and only that object), select the object on the artboard, and then click the Options of Selected Object button at the bottom of the Brushes panel.
Do you want to update the brush you just made—that is, change the artwork? Easy! Video 1 shows the process in action. To do it on your own, follow these steps:
Drag the brush from the Brushes panel onto a blank area of the artboard. This will give you the original art for the art brush.
Make the changes you want in the artwork (color, transparency, or whatever).
Hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) and drag the revised artwork on top of the brush in the Brushes panel.
When a line (highlight) appears around the brush, release the mouse button and then the Alt/Option key.
Click OK in the Art Brush Options dialog box.
If a dialog box appears, asking if you want to update the artwork on the artboard, click Apply To Strokes to update the artwork that’s using the brush on the artboard. Once you get the hang of it, it’s no big deal to update a brush.

Adobe Photoshop is one of the world’s leading graphics editing programs, developed by Adobe Systems. Available on Mac OS or PC, Photoshop is used as one of the leading image design programs for the World Wide Web. The most recent version of Photoshop, or Photoshop CS2, “bridges” between other Adobe products such as Image Ready, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, and Encore DVD to produce professional videos and DVDs. Photoshop uses a file format called a .PSD or .PDD to store multiple layers of an image. Recently Adobe released a program called Photoshop Elements in order to give a less expensive version of Photoshop with many of the same features. Although Adobe Photoshop is used primarily in doing touch-up for digital photos, it is also used for creating designs for web pages and professional companies.
Adobe Photoshop was originally created as a convenient and powerful way to retouch photos. Its most basic features include easily cropping and straightening photos that were either scanned ore taken with a digital camera. Under- or overexposed photos can be easily rescued with the retouch power of the Camera RAW and other plug-ins. Photos taken in difficult lighting situations can be perfected by a few clicks of a mouse. Filters and plug-ins can be used to make the picture seem old or change to black and white.
Many web and graphics designers use Photoshop to create and design company logos and advertisements. Built in Photoshop effects and filters can make designing professional logos or advertisements a quick and simple process. With the power of layers and opacity, pictures can be blended together and effects such as shadows, blurs, etc. are made possible. And, for those who desire to return to the finger painting days of their youth, Photoshop has a paintbrush tool with countless brush shapes and textures for anyone who just needs to let out their creativity.
Text editing has also become easily accessible because of Photoshop. Perspectives, shapes, and type on a path are just a few examples of the tons of amazing text effects that are available. Slimy, dripping letters or cloud-writing in the sky are made easy from filters and text effects built into Photoshop.
Web designers thrive on Photoshop for making animations using Photoshop with other Adobe products. The things that can be done with Photoshop are literally endless. This is truly and amazing program.
