Dominate The Use of Photoshop – Top Selling Digital Editing Programs Adobe Photoshop to Fix Photos

Photoshop is undoubtedly one of the forerunners of all the kinds of editing software that swarm the marketplace. With the plethora of tools and features that it offers users, Photoshop is fast gaining a reputation as one of the most widely used photo-editors in the editing sphere. However, there is still the challenge that most first-time users face when it comes to maneuvering their way through the software and learning about its true potential. In fact, there is a large percentage of users who are still unaware of all Photoshop has to offer, simply because they don’t know how to get it to work for them. However, there still is a brighter side to this story. Adobe has now delineated some of Photoshop’s most outstanding, and most widely used features into a remarkable software they call Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements is a conglomeration of features and tools that encompass all that an amateur photographer or a rookie editor needs. However it is the simplicity of use that Elements offers users, which are extensive enough to keep them engaged, while also ensuring that the procedures and maneuvers are as simple and uncomplicated as a person who is relatively new to the world of digital imaging would want them to be. Also, this software is incredibly popular with digital photography enthusiasts as it allows them features which are specially molded to suit their requirements and leaves out those which fall under the usage of professionals. The competent photo-editor, photo-organizer and selection of themes and templates offer you all the creative resources you need, while the simplistic functioning makes it a lot easier to perform a host of functions which would have seemed daunting in other circumstances.

One of the most remarkable functions that Photoshop Elements attains is packing an elaborate procedure into one concise step that you can avail of by simply clicking on the appropriate option. Of these, the ‘Red Eye Removal’ tool is invaluable in wiping off those distracting flaws that detract from the beauty of an otherwise perfect image. You can also crop your images down to the size you need them to be of, without puzzling over numbers and check boxes with the ‘Auto Crop’ feature, while fixing the light and color adjustments with the ‘Auto Smart Fix’ and ‘Auto Contrast’ options. What’s more, Elements also lets you take a peek at the ‘before’ images to let you see how effective your changes are.

Photoshop Elements also segregates its tools on the basis of the function they are designed to fulfill, so that the apprehension of wandering through a maze of options and selections is done away with. you can simply browse through the selection of tools offered under the ‘Organize’, ‘Fix’, ‘Create’ and ‘Share Photos’ categories based on what you’re looking to do with your photographs. The process of selection is brilliantly simplified with the user having to simply paint over the desired section of the image and letting the selection tool carve out the edges by itself. And if you’re looking for finer precision, you can also use the ‘Refine Edge’ dialog to smoothen, contract or expand the selection edge.

There are times when you think an image would look a lot better in its black and white form rather than the colored version you’ve captured with your digital camera. And if you’re holding back for fear of having to venture into yet another confusing procedure, and ruining your image in the process, Elements lets you take a look at your photograph in its vintage avatar with just a few simple steps. You can even toy with the intensity until you achieve the exact effect you had envisioned. To sort through your images, simply refer to the ‘Smart Albums’ feature in the ‘Organize’ category, which sifts through your collection on the basis of the date you last modified it and even the model of camera it was captured with. The larger and more prominent icons are amazingly easy to locate while the add-ons and tutorials that the internet has to offer, only add to the ease with which you can sail through your Elements editing process and explore an even larger array of possibilities.

After you’ve given your best to creating the most magnificent work of art conceivable, you would also want to showcase it in a manner that gives your efforts the justice they deserve. Photoshop Elements lets you pack your images into a stunning slideshow, or displays them with pride in web-galleries. You can even transfer your creations onto contact sheets if you’re looking for a more traditional perspective. And for those rush-jobs that you can’t afford to devote hours too and can’t compromise on the results as well, you can choose a striking backdrop or theme from the selection Photoshop offers, and simply click and drop them onto your images.

Irrespective of whether you choose to use Photoshop Elements all by itself, or as a part of your Photoshop exploration process, this software lives up to every claim it makes. But if you are bound by constraints of time and budget, or are swayed by the argument Photoshop loyalists swear by, then you can even download trial versions of both kinds of software from the website and browse through all their features. Although these trials are time-bound, they offer you the complete versions of the software, which are invaluable when it comes to making your selection. The bottom line is that if you have the will and the inspiration enough, the means by which you can accomplish your aspirations are many. All you have to do is take that first step and get your very own photo-editing software today and let your images shine in their true glory. Photoshop For Newbie Tips

Flying Money: History of a Best Selling Stock Photo

Flying Money, My First Photoshop Stock Photo

I noticed, when looking through my sales history, that many of my images have a very long life. The above image of flying money, which I named many years ago, Flight of the Greenbacks, is one of those long-lived pictures. It brought in just under $400.00 over the last year.

Now $400.00 in a year for a stock photo is hardly what one would call spectacular, hardly worth mentioning, I suppose. But the cool thing about this image earning that amount over the last year is that I created this image in 1990! This image was, I believe, the first stock photo I ever created in Photoshop.

Hundred Dollar Bills and Wings of Egrets

I photographed the money, a $100.00 bill, with a 4×5 Sinar camera using Ektachrome 4×5 transparency film. The wings came from a 35mm slide of an Egret in flight that I had photographed for part of a housing project brochure. I photographed the Egret using either Ektachrome or Kodachrome slide film, I don’t remember which.

The cloudy sky image was also from a 35mm slide. I had all the transparencies scanned on a drum scanner at a separation house. It cost me a hefty $110.00 a scan, and each scan was transferred to me via SyQuest disk.

Photoshop 1.0 and a Macintosh II

I used Photoshop 1.0 for the digital work on a Macintosh II. My machine had a whopping 32 megs of Ram and a un-calibrated 13 inch monitor. In Photoshop, back then, there were no layers, there was no history, there were no layer masks and there wasn’t even a pen tool to create clipping paths (at least at don’t remember one).

It took me two full days to create this image, and probably a third day of just cleaning up edges. Trying to get things perfect was the difficult part. Well, that and the fact that everything took forever to do! Rotating a 30 megabyte file took over half-an-hour, and since all you could see during the duration was a bounding box, accuracy was non-existent! I don’t even like remembering it.

Finally, I had to deliver the image to Tony Stone Images (this was before Getty Images existed) as a 4×5 transparency output from a film recorder.

$15,000.00, Fifteen Years, and a Time Magazine Cover

Though the earnings of this image have dropped considerably, way back in the day, it earned some good money. I would guess my total returns for this image is in the neighborhood of $15,000.00.

Another interesting point is that it took fifteen years from the time I created it for it to show up on the cover of Time Magazine. The people at Time isolated the flying money and added in a face to illustrate an article on what they called “The Great Retirement Rip Off”.

Photoshop, Progress Bars and 3D Programs

In the early nineties I was constantly being told that you couldn’t use Photoshop to do professional level work. I just smiled and went back to watching that progress bar. Actually, I should say several progress bars.

You could be much more efficient with two or three machines. I remember once using the “radial>zoom>blur” filter on a photograph in an operation that took 19+ hours to finish, then it didn’t look very good so I did the old “command-z”. I suppose there are those out there (Colin Anderson, Shalom Ormsby and Phil Banko, for example?) who now experience those same situations doing high-end work with 3D programs.

Income Producing Assets

Every time I set about to make a stock photo, I am trying to create an image with that kind of staying power. In the well-known investment book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki advocates investing your money in “income producing assets”.

That is how I view my stock photos, as income producing assets. I am investing my time, my money and my ideas in stock photo assets. I don’t know about you, but I find it very reassuring that those assets can still, even in these years of industry turbulence, have a long and healthy life.

Using a Picture of a Sailboat and Photoshop to Make a Hot Selling Stock Photo!

I am always on the look out for source material.  While walking along a pedestrian path along the shore of San Francisco bay I encountered a sailboat that had broken loose from its mooring and was beached while the tide was out.  I didn’t know how I was going to use it, but I photographed the boat any way, and from a variety of angles.

About six months later I was photographing rough seas off the Coast of Marin County (at Rodeo Beach) when it occurred to me I could composite the sailboat into the seas and create an image illustrating danger, risk and challenge.  It turned out that the sea wasn’t really rough enough, so I used the waves I had photographed to create a stormier sea.  I used a sky I had photographed years earlier in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I stripped out the sailboat, including all the various lines (ropes and wires) using clipping paths in Photoshop.  Then I pasted the boat into the waves and used a layer mask to make it look like the boat was actually in the waves.

Pictures of Roads and Brick Walls

Recently I have created numerous stock photos from images that I have “collected” to have on hand for future inspiration.  In another such case I decided to create a stock photo from one of a number of road pictures I have taken over the years.  After opening the file in Photoshop I used Bridge to look through a folder of potential images I keep handy.  A picture of a brick wall I had shot some months earlier in a Berkeley neighborhood caught me eye.  It was a simple matter to select the brick wall and insert it into the road picture.  The process took about half-an-hour and cost me nothing.  The result was a stock photo accepted by Getty into The Image Bank brand.

Picturing Interiors

One thing that I am trying to “collect” more of is interior spaces.  I cringe when I think of all the interiors I have photographed in over the years and failed to take advantage of them.  Now I make it a rule to shoot any space I am shooting in with an eye towards using it in a future composite.

A successful example of having an interior space on hand can be seen in a stock photo of a woman sleeping happily on a commercial jet.  In this case the picture I took of an empty seat across the aisle from me on a flight back from Bangkok was the inspiration.  I began with that image and hired a model to pose for me in my studio.  I stripped her into the seat and put a picture of a blue sky from my files into the window.  The result is a stock photo which has been licensed numerous times as a Rights Managed image.

You just never know what image is going to work…or how it is going to work.  An image shot of the ceiling of an airport became a great backdrop for a child astronaut.  Turned on its side, the ceiling became the perfect high-tech background for a space facility.

Creating a library of likely, and even unlikely, composite parts, is a key component of my stock plan.  When I find a likely place or thing I try to get a variety of angles and elevations, as I never know just how things might go together.

Selling Software Online

Back in 1999, when I began creating my own logo design software, there were very few ways of collecting payment from online customers.

I went directly to Visa, Mastercard and American Express and set up accounts with each one.

All three gave me different methods of entering credit card information. I had to place each purchase … manually … into a software application ( that I think I remember purchasing for $400). Each night, we had to submit the credit card information … over a dial up connection! 56k I think it was… then each morning, I’d get an eMail with the cards that went through.

Then I’d send the software to the customer…

This online commerce stuff was new back then, so collecting credit cards without an official signature was very tricky.

It was very easy for the end customer to reverse the charges, or provide stolen Credit Cards.

They (the credit card companies) collected 3 to 4% of each transaction. So not only did I loose the sale if the customer reversed the charges, I’d loose the transaction fees, the bank fees and, of course, the actual sale.

It was nutts I tells ya!

Things are different today. So very different. And so much easier.

There are many companies that can help you now with selling downloadable software. Paypal is very popular. I recommend finding a programmer to help you set up your Paypal account ( I did this for my own website design software store). You can use a service like eLance.com to find a programmer that will connect your downloadable software with your own PayPal account.

There are also full service companies. DigitalRiver.com and Cleverbridge.com. I’ve used them both and they’re fantastic. They take between 10 and 20% of your sales, but that’s their fee. They also handle fraud control and digital downloads.

They also make it easy to collect any form of currency, in any language.

They’ve not only provided me with eCommerce, but I’ve got many connections to the software world through them. I’ve been honored to meet people at of some companies I really admire. Symantec, Adobe, and online shops like Clipart.com.

… So if you’re selling anything online, anything that can be purchased and downloaded through the web, these companies can work for you so you can work for yourself.

Place the Vive Back in Your Selling With Quality Powerpoint Slides

PowerPoint has become such a common business standard that a ordinary PowerPoint presentation is immediately marked as such. Especially if you’re making a sales presentation, a poor presentation may even hurt your business.

In other kinds of corporate meetings, they can help to underscore the point being made, or simply give an outline for the presenter to follow. Putting time into creating a top quality PowerPoint presentation is a great way to explain to attendees of a meeting that the data you’re giving is important, exact, and in the case of sales presentations, financially valuable to all.

But working on a high quality PowerPoint presentation takes time. And while it is at times tempting to simply pass this work on to somebody with more time, it is often a good thought to do this work yourself, or at least create and set up the information for each slide.

One way to create greater quality PowerPoint presentations is to use higher quality graphics. Clipart taken straight from Microsoft Office screams “this information wasn’t important enough for me to aim.” In particular, avoid using MS Office “screen beans,” which are so common as to become laughably cliché.

If you have important points to make, particularly if they’re whole paragraphs, include them in handouts. If you’re giving a dynamic presentation and want to keep your audience’s entire attention, make sure to pass out any handouts at the final, as they can be distracting.

Costly PowerPoint templates incorporate the kind of photos, animation, and transitions that you might not be able to create yourself. With well-made flash animation and sharp photos, your presentation will really stand out. But be sure not to get anything too involved. You don’t want to distract from your presentation itself.

Don’t use too many bullet points and particularly don’t use paragraphs to get your idea across. You should be doing that yourself. Also, don’t overwhelm your presentation with graphics, involved animated transitions, and graphics. Remember that the lecture is about the information. Especially for selling presentations, you don’t want anybody in the room to exit feeling that they’ve wasted their time watching fancy cliparts. Too many extras on your PowerPoint slides will take away from from your presentation rather than add to it.

A way to keep your PowerPoint presentations clear and useful is to follow the 10-20-30 rule for PowerPoint presentations. The 10-20-30 rule tells that a presentation should be no more than ten PowerPoint slides, last no more than 20 minutes, and employ a font no smaller than 30-point. Following the 10-20-30 rule assists you to keep your meeting short, succinct, and informative.

PowerPoint is one of the most helpful presentation tools you can use for business meetings and sales presentations. A good PowerPoint presentation helps to underline your idea while giving the audience pieces of information that will stick with them. While a good presentation will help your business and add to your meeting, a bad one can do just the opposite.

High level presentation tools ? powerpoint presentation and powerpoint slides give your presentation a boost and get better results.

Start a Quilting Business Making and Selling Custom Tree Skirts

Christmas is a time of year when people splurge. They buy gifts for people, they decorate their homes and offices, and they create special memories for their friends and families. Your quilting business niche could be making and selling custom tree skirts for the holidays.

Who buys custom tree skirts? People who can’t make them themselves…and there are plenty of people who can’t! If you are a quilter, chances are that you’ve made one for yourself or even for a friend as a gift. Maybe you’ve never considered making and selling them.

Making and selling custom tree skirts can be a year around business. Here’s how to get started:

First, make a couple of tree skirts to show as samples. Use a traditional quilt pattern in Christmas-themed fabric to make a sample. For another sample, make it truly customized. Use machine embroidery to put a name on the tree skirt or appliqu?he name onto the quilted skirt.

Another way to show a customized tree skirt is to use appliqu? If you are making a tree skirt for a fireman, you could start with a solid color cotton background and appliqu&eacute onto it designs like a fireman hat, a hydrant, etc. You would use your quilting skills to quilt around each appliqu?br />

Applique is the best way to customize a tree skirt for a business. The base of the skirt is your pallet and the appliqu?are your works of art!

Don’t let the word “art” scare you. If you haven’t done a lot of applique, you might not realize just how easy it is to create a custom tree skirt. Your designs are as close as your clip art collection.

If you have a business customer who wants a logo on the customized quilted tree skirt, you might need a scanner (or at least access to one). Print out a copy of the business’ logo and use it as the pattern for your appliqu?br />

Once you have a few samples, you can sell your custom tree skirts in a couple of different ways. Advertise and wait for customers to call, or sell them directly to potential customers.

In using the advertising method, snap photos of each of your custom designs. Make fliers using the photos. Develop a webpage using the pictures, or place a small ad in a local newspaper.

With the direct sales method, you pack up your quilted tree skirts and hit the road. You ask people if they’d like to buy one. Some of the best places to go (if the offices allow solicitors) include a county courthouse or city hall, banks, schools, and hospitals. While you’re there, make sure to ask the top ranking official if he/she would like to buy one for the business, not just for the home.

A combination of the two methods is to sell at quilt and craft shows. This can be tricky unless you have several generic skirts ready to sell during the show. Choose a few traditional patterns and a few appliques for top professions like nursing, teaching, banking, etc.

Selling at craft shows gives you a market full of people who want to spend money on crafts. It will also give you a chance to be physically in front of customers without the aggressiveness often needed to be successful in direct sales.

No matter which method of sales you choose, always attach a business card with each custom tree skirt you sale. When your customers get compliments about the skirts, they can refer their friends to you!

Selling Photoshop Work to Stock Photography Sites

The best tool a freelance digital photographer has, besides a digital camera, is photoshop. Mainly, because it can increase stock photo sales and generate more profit. It can work just as well if your more into just editing digital photos, or graphic design. You are still going to need a digital camera, but putting more focus on digital editing is really up to you.

With every coming year the population of graphic designers and photo editors has been increasing. Photo editors, like yourself, are trying to find a freelance income from their work. This can be hard with competition and location. So, a lot of those people turn to stock photo sites to start a career or earn extra income. If you don’t know what a stock photography site is, the definition is basically a site that provides graphic designers, advertisers, and marketers digital photos for whatever job they need. The people selling them upload their photos, the photos are bought through a stock photography site like Shutterstock and you earn a commission or a profit. It can be said that this is mainly a freelance digital photography business but lately that has changed. Actually having photo editing skills will benefit you in the long run and earn you more sales.

The people that are buying stock photos are graphic designers and photo editors like you. Which makes it easier for you to understand exactly what a buyer wants. You can utilize this information and make more sales by providing them with the types of digital photos they need for a particular job. It might not apply as much Photoshop and digital editing as one would want but its a freelance lucrative business that can earn you a pretty decent paycheck.

You are going to need two things right at the beginning: a digital camera and an internet connection. Then you can learn how to create your own digital stock photography portfolio. It’s important that you learn about keywords, uploading, traffic, best photos to sell and the best stock photography sites. There are some books that helped me, but one source in particular I recommend is a program called Camera Dollars. Basically, this program will teach you all the technical stuff that is hard for anyone to understand. (the link is on the site). That is where I learned this information when I was first starting out. I started out only selling digital photography and in the beginning I was only earning about $100.00 per site every day. I later started using Photoshop a ton more and increased my profits multiple times.

If you are digital editor or graphic designer then I definitely recommend trying to sell your work on places like Shutterstock to see if it’s right for you. If your a digital photographer you need to get photoshop for photo upkeep and presentation. If you work hard and spend several hours each week you will earn money fairly quick. You won’t need to quit your day job, you just need enough time to take and edit photos.
