This took me all of twenty minutes of absentmindedness. I was truly just playing around until I got something that I liked. It is sped up about 4x the orginal speed. Tell me what you think. This uses a picture of Christina Milian. If you have any questions leave comments or if you want to know how to do anything let me know. I’ll try my best to get it done. Enough with my ramblings…enjoy. **This is not intended for tutorial purposes. If a tutorial is desired one can be done in real time with instructions** Video Rating: 2 / 5
You named your company. Now it is time to create a logo. Rather than approach the creation of your logo as a graphic arts project, take a pure business approach. We would all like our logo to tell everyone what we do and why we do it as well as why we are the best at what we do, but the reality is, our logo will only do one thing—quickly and visually connect the name of our company with someone’s feelings about our company.
I get excited when I see the Apple logo. What does an apple have to do with computers? I feel my adrenaline increase when I see the Nike logo. What does the famous swish have to do with athletics? Does anyone care? What matters is I make a quick, emotional connection to a company or products when I see the logo. On the other hand, I get a pit in my gut when I see a certain insurance company’s logo. It’s all about connecting emotion with the company or product. And, doing it quickly.
Here are my rules for logo design. As in all of my “rules”, learn them, understand them, and then break them with your eyes wide open.
Keep your logo to one or two colors including black.
Keep your logo simple in design.
Don’t try to tell your company story with your logo, instead focus on one simple thing.
Here are a few examples of logos from my life and my critique of them:
Simple and very descriptive. QMS was originally known as Quality Micro Systems. As the company moved to laser and color printer products they shortened their name. The downside of the name (not the logo) is when they were listed on the stock market they had to change their initials. Companies that were flagged for any reason have a “Q” inserted at the beginning of their initials. Other positive aspects of this logo include the ability to print or display on any medium without any loss of visual appeal and the ability to add color. It also tells a bit about the company with the piece of paper folding up.
]]>
Adobe (PostScript, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.) originally used this logo. I heard a rumor this was designed by John Warnock’s mother. John was one of the two founders of Adobe Systems.
Although its use of color and design was simple, it tried to do too much by conveying the entire name of the company. You could argue that it is quickly recognized but the complexity of each letter causes your eye to spend too much time sorting through the logo, delaying the emotional attachments to the brand.
Adobe spent a significant amount of money to have their new logo designed. The logo is one of the best in my experience. The bold red color grabs your eyes and can easily be changed to black for applications when color can’t be used. The letter “A” in the logo allows the use of the logo without the word “Adobe” attached and the reader still has immediate recognition. The red also draws out a powerful emotional reaction with a power statement. The logo can easily be adapted to newer styles and various applications. It can even be rendered in 3-D.
Here are a few examples of other applications of this logo. I might mention that once you choose a color for your logo, be uncompromising in change. I apologize that two of the three logos displayed below are using different shades of the Adobe red. This detracts from the power of a consistent logo and caused the viewer to question if this is the same Adobe. Coca Cola went so far as to trademark their color of red in logo usage!
Also, one of my favorites, the Efficient Networks logo can be used with or without the company name. It is quickly recognized. We had some fun with this logo displaying it in 3-D and spinning it. We also put a globe behind it and spun the globe. It works on black and white applications such as embossing into plastics products.
Other applications of this logo included putting a clear bubble on top of it to give it a 3-D look when applied as a sticker onto products. The color creates a warm feeling while the angle and opening pointing slightly up generates energy. The logo also implies a smile, again playing on the emotions of the viewer.
When asking for a logo design, resist the temptation to over design your logo. Keep it simple. Remember your fancy, multi-color, detailed logo telling the life story of your company full of blends and design details might look awesome on your computer screen, but when you try creating a version that would look great on your building or on a black and white fax it just won’t work. A great logo design can be applied to just about any surface and still look great. Above I gave a “good” example with QMS and two “great” examples with Adobe and Efficient Networks.
If you need more great examples of great logo design look no further than the social media logos from LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. Skype is another great example. When designing logos, remember KISS — keep it simple stupid!

Quick and Easy Basic Manipulations Steps in Photoshop CS3 Effects
One image can yield a wide array of manipulations in Photoshop CS3. Using only filters already built in to the program, users can render the same file into different images for a variety of applications. This tutorial highlights some basic effects which can be achieved in just a few steps.
Open Photoshop CS3; and then open any image which you own, have permission to use, or is in the public domain. Save a copy of the image and then close the original to use again. You may choose to save multiple copies to avoid numerous undo steps.
Textures applied to the whole image can render different appearances. To make an image appear to be under mottled glass, click on Filter, scroll down to Distort, and then click on Glass. In this menu choose Canvas, leave the Scaling at 100%, and then adjust the Distortion and Smoothness to your liking. Give the image a cross-stitch look by clicking on Filter, scrolling down to Texture, and then clicking on Patchwork. A Square Size and Relief of 5 seem to work well for many images.
Change a photo into a painting or drawing by applying basic filters. To convert to a painting, click on Filter, scroll down to Brush Strokes, and then click on Angled Strokes. Make adjustments to the Direction Balance, Stroke Length, and Sharpness until you are satisfied with the preview. Render a quick cartoon drawing by first making a duplicate layer of your image. Click on Layers, and then click on Duplicate Layer. With the Background Copy layer active, click on Filter, scroll down to Artistic, and then click on Poster Edges. The default settings should be sufficient, though you can make adjustments as you choose. Click OK to exit the Poster Edges menu. Go back to Filter, down to Artistic, and click on Cutout. In this menu, Number of Levels and Edge Simplicity set at 4, with Edge Fidelity set at 2 appear to give a great effect.
Converting an image to grayscale in Photoshop used to mean simply using the Desaturate option. Photoshop CS3 has introduced the Black and White adjustment, allowing for more control. Click on Image, scroll to Adjustments, and then click on Black & White. Explore the Presets and move the sliders around to get a feel for the customization available. Place a check in the Tint box to give the image a sepia or monotone appearance.
Basic manipulations can be quick and easy in Photoshop CS3. A few simple steps allow users to alter images for graphic and web design, scrapbooking, or any other application. Apply one effect or several for a variety of results.
Started out in design and then moved into digital photography. I have worked for Adobe in the Photoshop department and now create on line tutorials to help users understand this very seemingly complicated piece of software.Visit :http://learnphotoshop2.blogspot.com/
How to Use photoshop Tutorial, that will help you to Quick Start with Photoshop Basics
Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular photo editing software. This software has a user friendly interface, which allows users to perform basic photo editing. However, one just need not spend hundreds of dollars on buying photoshop to do photo editing. As Adobe Photoshop offers much more! Did you know that photoshop is used by professionals to create matte paintings. Matte painting are the paintings used to form the background layers in movies like Van Helsing, Lord of the Rings, etc. Yes my friend, the backgrounds used in LOTR series are all detailed matte paintings done by professional artists in photo editing softwares, and not a film set.
With photoshop you can do graphic design, you can create business cards, greeting cards, do compositing, unwrap UV textures (am I getting too technical here?). Unwrapping UV texture is like taking a 3D model from a software and opening it in photoshop and then painting it in photoshop. Well, in short photoshop is a multi-purpose tool, and once you understand the basics of photoshop, you can exploit this software in many many ways. There are various ways to learn how to use photoshop.
Fast Way to Learn Photoshop
You can download video tutorials on photoshop, or download other tutorials which contains instructions and screenshots of photoshop software, that help you understand the various features and settings in photoshop. However, in my opinion the best way to understand and learn how to use photoshop is just to start playing around with the software and if you get stuck somewhere, then hit the F1 key for help and search on the topic on which you are stuck. For example, if you want to import multiple images in photoshop, but don’t know how to, then just press F1 key and search for photoshop help by typing ‘importing images’. Few search results will appear in front of you, click on the relevant search result and read the stepwise instructions provided in the tutorial, and follow it to import multiple images. Yes, learning photoshop is quite easy and this is one of the fastest way to learn how to use adobe photoshop.
How to Use Adobe Photoshop?
To learn photoshop, what do you need? You need some previous experience of using paintbrush (yeah, the old free software that is in accessories programs tab of windows), and the photoshop software. You can download the free trial version of old photoshop CS any version, or borrow from a friend any old version of photoshop 7, 8, anything will do. Before using this software, here are some pre-photoshop tips – photoshop can slow down your machine, hence you need a good graphics card and 1-2 GB of RAM capacity. So, install photoshop trial or old version, and use these tips to check the various features and tools in photoshop.
Opening Photoshop Basics Guessing the first thing you want to do with photoshop is edit some pictures. (May be edit your picture, to remove pimples from your face, and crop it to put it as a profile pic on facebook?) You can simply drag and drop the picture you want to edit, or use the import option and specify the path of the image. You can also import multiple images selecting many images from a folder, and dragging and dropping your selection into photoshop software.
Understanding and Using Layers Now that you got a picture, you will need to use tools and settings to change the picture. The first thing you need to do is unlock the layer of the image. On the bottom right side of the software, there is a floating box of layers. On that your image will be displayed as a layer. Unlock this layer, so that you can edit this picture. Remember, that you always need to keep layers unlocked in photoshop to work on them. You can select the hue/saturation or brightness/contrast options which you select from a drop box in the menu bar. Play around with the light and color settings. You can work in multiple layers in the photoshop easily, and there are many setting and features.
Here, is something for you to try out. Create a new layer which will be a tiny option on the bottom right side of layers floating box. Lock your original image layer. Then on the new layer (make sure it’s unlocked), use the text option from the tool bar on the left side. Then select the text layers and text option and start typing on your workspace. This way you can add text on your picture. But, wait, not just that, you can go on adding anything you like this way in layers. For example, bottom layer of a red carpet event with the main celebrities, then middle layer of your smiling face picture overlapped on the head of the hero/heroine of the movie, next top layer of fan A drooling, next top layer of fan B swooning, next top layer of fan C asking autograph, to layer infinity… I hope, now you understand the ‘power of layers in photoshop’. Play with settings like opacity, normal, screen, multiply with layers. These options you will find on the layers box, just below the there tabs of layers, channels and paths. Level 3 is using tools in photoshop.
Playing with the Toolbar One of the aspect which distinguishes photoshop from other photo editing softwares, are the tool options of photoshop. On the left side of photoshop software the toolbar is located. Here are some tips, before we start looking at the tool options in photoshop. If you can’t find the toolbar, layers or other floating windows in photoshop, then go to the windows options on the menu bar and click on default, all the windows will get arranged to their default places. You can also click on the individual options like layers box, color palette, toolbar, etc. if you like.
There are many tools options in photoshop. The basic ones are rectangular, crop, eraser, pen, zoom, eyedropper, hand, brush, move, text, etc. You can learn the keyboard shortcuts of all these tools, just hover the mouse cursor on tools and the shortcut will get displayed, or go to help on photoshop and you will get a list of all these keyboard shortcuts, take a screenshot of these and stick them as a wallpaper, to memorize them. Play with these keyboard shortcuts for half an hour. The basic tools are easy to use and learn. However, there are some awesome advanced tools like magic wand, clone stamp, dodge, lasso tool options which allow the user advance editing. For example, with lasso tool, you can select someone’s lips and using hue/saturation option to paint those lips green. Or you can use the clone stamp, select a patch of good skin, and stamp it on the pimples or scars, to make your skin look blemish-free. (Yep, works faster than any anti-blemish cream!) Wondering, how to change eye color in photoshop which is red? Another great tool is the red eye tool, which you can find under the spot healing brush tool menu. Just click on the red eyes, and voila! Instant red eye correction.
Going Advanced Alright, now this is for some serious photoshop users, or artists who want to use this software for designing or painting purposes. If you wish to learn how to paint then you need to play a lot with the color palette, and understand all the sizes and shapes of brush options. Also, practice of layers is important. If you are doing some graphic design work, then you will need to use more options like emboss, highlight, shadow, etc. and also understand other options like flipping images, skewing them, etc. For people who want to compose their image to look professional, you need to zoom the images a lot so that you actually work on pixel levels so that your image looks flawless. Use the feather or blur option in such cases. Tip – while doing any important project, keep saving a back up of your file every 1 or 2 hours, to prevent loss of valuable artwork.
Have you heard about photoshop elements? It is a more cheaper and simpler software compared to photoshop. It is a good software too, however, it doesn’t have all the options found in photoshop. Wondering, how to use photoshop elements? It is pretty much the same way using photoshop. Another advantage of photoshop elements is that it is lighter than Photoshop CS. It is a good software if you are not looking for advanced features. These were the tips on how to use photoshop. So, use the above tips to explore photoshop features and options. If you get stuck, then hit the F1 key.
