Brainstorm your clipart design ideas of card by sketching or doodling them in a sketchbook using colored pencils. Silly or goofy designs can often be the most amusing. Ironical ideas card or witty clip-art carddesigns can also be quite funny and memorable. Remember that the goal is to create clip-art card to make someone smile when she opens the clip art card, so the art shouldn’t be too involved. It’s best to avoid anything distasteful.

The first step in creating your clip-art card is selecting the individual pieces you want to use. This includes photos, clip art, stamps and text tabs. Each tab allows you to add a different type of cards clipart component. Simply choose the category you wish to view from the pull-down, then drag-n-drop the clipart cards or stamp you want in the same way that you added your images. Rotate, resize, crop and reposition each piece as you see fit. To add text, just switch to “Text” tab, and click ‘New Text” and then type your text in the text box. You can also set your font, size, style, alignment and color. Check the Shadow box to add a shadow to your text.

Part 2: Print your Clipart Cards

In Print Clip Art Card tab window, you can print your cards clip art directly using the print tool in Photo Collage Studio. Before that, you could specify settings about how to print your clipart.

    1. Select Page

If you have create many pages of clip art card in one project and you want to print only some of clipart cards, you should select desired pages to print. To do so, click the button  to bring up a window to select pages from. By default, all pages would be checked to print. To print specified pages, you have to uncheck the pages you don’t want. Make sure that only the pages you want to print have the tick sign at the bottom left corner of each page thumbnail.

    2. Orientation

Select page orientation of your clip art card on the top left hand side. By default, the orientation would be Portrait. Portrait works for most documents, which means its height is taller than its width. On the other hand, you can select to print your clipart page in Landscape orientation, which means its width is longer than its height.

To make advanced settings for printing clipart, you can click  button to open the setting dialog, in which options of Printer, Page range, Copies and so forth are available. You can even make in-depth parameters of selected printer by clicking “Properties” button beside the printer name drop-down list. See the printer manual for detailed information if possible.

Is this book for programmers?  Written specifically for graphic designers and production artists already comfortable working with Adobe InDesign, this book teaches you how to automate publishing without learning a lot of scary code. XML simplifies the process of moving content in and out of your layouts and can speed up any print or Web assignment.

Why should I care about XML? If you’re managing data-intensive layout projects, and you want to keep that data consistent, accurate, and up-to-date, then incorporating XML can help. You can also use XML to automate processes like importing text and large numbers of graphics into a layout, or repurposing content from one application to another. Do I need additional plug-ins or special software? You need only the powerful features built into InDesign CS2, CS3 or CS4 to use this book.

    How will I learn XML?
This guide includes nine easy-to-follow projects with downloadable support files. With these hands-on tutorials, you will learn XML in context. By the final project, XML will no longer be a mystery, but a powerful tool you can use to support your company or clients.

These real-world projects will teach you:
l Business cards: Create a structured layout in InDesign and then import XML. Format text automatically and flow the text into multiple examples.
l Product catalog: Learn how to import XML data into a structured layout using nested styles and cloned text.
l Direct mail and variable data printing: Use XML and InDesign to create sophisticated direct mail pieces without costly plug-ins or third-party software.
l Magazine and newspaper: Build and export magazine-style publications for online distribution.
l Web: Transform XML into XHTML to incorporate directly into your Web pages, or use Cascading Style Sheets to instantly format your exported XML.

Convert A Blurry, Dull Image To A Print Ready Image Using Totally Free Softwares

How to convert a dull image to a print ready image using totally FREE softwares. The image can further be used for the website applications or sign cutting programs like Flexicut etc.

Technically it is converted from JPEG to Vector graphics.

Vector art is the way of graphics where the size increase of the object or picture etc. is in conjunction with the quality. To me it means that when we increase the size of the object, the clarity of the object is still crystal clear. It is not losing pixels or getting blurry as in the case of a JPEG image. When we increase the size of a JPEG image, its quality is lost. See the example below.

Interestingly, image B is made out of image A but image A loses its quality when the size is increased because its a JPEG image. Where as the image B (As long as it is a vector art file) never loses its quality. The size may vary (mm, cm, inches, feet or meters really doesn’t matter!)

     Real Example

     Image A

    Image B

    How to Do it?

Step 1: Choose an image. I have chosen this image because its a good example of small portions inside a square. It is a small image (55×60 pixels, 9.89 kb), and can help me to make the point I am explaining here. (Same clarity with bigger size). It is also part of a logo for an appliance company and one of the customers I made a website for has full authorization to use the logo on his van.

Step 2: Save the image on your desktop. (Easier to work with) Lets say the file name is “A.jpg”

Step 3: Open the Inkscape. Inkscape is the totally free program that will do the job. If you want to get it, go on my website and click “Get Inkscape” at the bottom.

Step 4: Click “A.jpg”, drag and release it on the working page of the inkscape. You will see the small image surrounded by the arrows to increase or decrease the size.

Step 5: Click on the “Path” menu on the top menu bar and choose “Trace Bitmap”.

Step 6: In the dialogue box that appears, change “Scans” number from “8” to “256” and click the “Update” button on the right. Generally, whatever update shows, click “OK” at the bottom of the dialogue box. The image B is traced exactly on the top of the image A.

Step 7: Click and drag the image B away.

Step 8: Increase the size of the image B. See how clear it is! Now you can increase the size of the image A to match the size of the image B but quality will be far inferior.

Step 9: Delete the image A out of the page and save file as an .svg file.

Step 10: If you need to transfer the file to a printing or a cutting program as Flexicut, save the file as .pdf.

These are the simple steps to convert an image from dull to crisp and ready for printing, cutting or for websites. All free of cost!

Canvas Prints: How to Transfer your Masterpieces to Print

Having your portrait on canvas need not be expensive or frustrating. You can opt not to spend a fortune hiring a painter, which mind you, does not guarantee satisfactory results. You can rely on your own skill, imagination and canvas prints to create your magnum opus.

It doesn’t require long years of disciplined practice, nor does it require genius like talent. All it takes is some computer know-how and a reliable printer to create your piece de resistance.

    Canvas Printing

You can fully enjoy your photographs and digital images on a new plane. Canvas prints are an ideal material to print your images. These are perfect for artwork and photo reproductions and would hold well the colors and the details of your images or design.

However, sometimes, it takes some effort to furbish these images to create the effect you want to on the canvas prints. Here then are some ways you can achieve this.

Adobe Photoshop and Canvas Printing: Achieving Digital Effects

Now, you can select your favorite photograph, be it your portrait, or even a landscape, a picture that has that painting potential and have it printed on canvas. You can use Adobe Photoshop to add effects that will make your snapshot look like a bona fide artwork.

Here are a few Photoshop techniques to turn your snapshot into an object of awe:

    • Adjust the color of the snapshot by making it more subdued. This can create a soft texture to the overall design, making it seem like an old-painting. Create a new lawyer of the image, and make adjustments in the hue and saturation (Ctrl + U). You may choose to lessen the saturation of the whole image and highlight a few key colors such as red or orange. Play around with the tonal values until you achieve the results you wish.

    • Using the blur tool, you can make the unimportant elements blurry to give a softer effect and to emphasize the more poignant elements (i.e. the eyes)

    • Use the brush strokes filter to create the illusion of brush strokes.

    • You can create the washed out effect. Create a new layer and fill it with white. Using the eraser tool, erase parts you want to be visible. Play around with the layer opacity, and the eraser’s options.

    • To create the chiaroscuro effect, you can burn the areas where the shadows are supposed to fall.

    • If you want a spotlight effect, you can play around with the lighting effects in the filter section under Render.

Have fun with it. After all, it is your masterpiece. However, it might do well to remember some of these details for your canvas printing.

    • Make sure that you’re photo has a good resolution. Talk to your printer about their requirements.

    • Unlike card stock, canvas being made of fabric is soft and does not have a definite form. It is a good idea to frame it and mount it.

    • It is very important to select a printing company that offers high quality printing. Ask them for an online proof of your image so you can be sure that you will have the output you want.

Good luck and have a beautiful gallery filled with your canvas prints.
