Get the “Classroom in a Book” for Adobe Photoshop. They’re not cheap, but I got the ones I used from Half.com and paid about $ 20 a piece for them. I learned to use Photoshop AND Illustrator by going through those books. They have a CD of hands-on lessons and it even includes some web design exercises (I skipped those — I’m not a web designer).

As far as I know, you need to buy an ebook on ebooks before you can read it. For free ebooks you may try other sites. Just search for free ebooks on any search engine and you will get many of them. Project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ is a good starting point for free ebooks on literature and reference books.
The ebooks come in different formats. Some could be in plain text which can be read on most of the text editors: notepad, MS word, etc. For other file formats such as .pdf or .lit you need appropriate readers (Acrobat reader and Microsoft reader respectively). You can get these readers from the corresponding software provider (Adobe/Microsoft,etc.)

it is a computer file…not a disc!

Installed fine on my machine. Just put the first disk in and follow the prompts. You shouldn’t need anything installed first (other than windows 7).
Adobe has a pretty good hotline if you have problems.
