I am trying to turn an object to color in an black and white picture so that object can stand out. I am using adobe CS3, any tips?

If you mean you have downloaded a picture and want to change it to colour, this is impossible as far as I know. If you have edited the picture to black and white and want a small portion of the picture colour then sorry I can’t help as I have never used CS3.

I have made an invite for my niece’s babyshower with clipart. Every time I change the background color in excel the clipart images are within a white block, anyone know how to fix this?

using an image editor [try gimp, it's free], erase the background of the clipart and save it as a .GIF or .PNG. These are the only two types of images that support transparent backgrounds. PNG is better because it supports partial transparency, so you can fade edges cleanly.
