Discover Easy Steps to Move Photoshop to Illustrator – The Fastest Way To Learn The Basics Of Photoshop

No one can dispute the power of the Illustrator and Photoshop programs. Individually these are great programs, but when you combine elements of both, anything is possible. Artists many time use features from both Photoshop and Illustrator to create beautiful artwork for publishing. There are three basic ways to move a file from Photoshop to Illustrator.

Both programs respond to a File > Place command to either “place” Illustrator artwork into a Photoshop file or a Photoshop image into an Illustrator document. This is the most traditionally used method among users for moving a file from one program to the other. The caution in this method is that the artwork or image must be in a file format readable by the other program.

Photoshop is very adaptable at reading various file formats. Illustrator has a few more restrictions in the formats it recognizes, but once a Photoshop file is in an understandable format (i.e. TIFF, GIF, JPEG, etc.) using the File > Place command with the desired image is simple. Illustrator will “place” this image inside the Illustrator file and allow you some manipulation of the file in Illustrator.

Another way of moving a Photoshop file into Illustrator (or vice versa) is with the Clipboard. Just copy the file essentials you want from one program with the Copy command and paste it into the other program with the Paste command. There are limits to the Copy-Paste method however. This method does not work well for large files and you can easily overload the receiving program by pasting a large file into it.

The third method for introducing a file from one program into the other is dragging and dropping. If you want to take Photoshop art and put it in your Illustrator file, both programs must be open. Select the artwork you want to transfer, and simply drag it out of the Photoshop window onto the Illustrator window. To take Illustrator art into Photoshop, simply select the artwork from an open Illustrator window, drag it to an open Photoshop window and drop it into Photoshop.

You can also place paths from Photoshop into Illustrator files. Using the Path Selection tool in Photoshop, choose and copy the paths you want to move and paste them into Illustrator.

Question by Christopher R: How can I move my desktop icons to anywhere on my desktop?
I accidentally auto-arranged my icons and now it wont let me return them to their place. How can I unlock the position of my icons so that I can place them anywhere that I want (complete customization)? I know that it is possible because I have done it before. I have already unchecked the auto align and all that. Please help.

Question by Crazy C: How do I move icons on iphone from page to page?
Ok, on the iphone, I know how to move the icons around and delete them, my problem is that I have about 5 pages of icons, and all are half full. I want to consolidate them to 2-3 scrolling pages of icons, and re-order them at the same time, problem is I can only seem to move things around on the page they are already on, not to a new one.I can’t seem to drag the icons from one page to another, only rearrange them on the page they are on. Help!
