Making Transformations in Adobe Illustrator CS4 and max tutorial

Drawing objects in Illustrator is only part of the design process. Once art is created, you can manipulate it in a myriad of ways. In Illustrator, the process of manipulating a path is called a transformation, and transformations can include anything from simply moving an object to changing its size or rotation.

Basic Transformations

When you move an object, its x,y coordinates change. You can move selected objects precisely by changing their x,y coordinates in the Control or Transform panel. Alternatively, double-clicking the Selection tool opens the Move dialog box, where you can specify values numerically (see max tutorial). Clicking the Copy button in the Move dialog box leaves the original shape in place and moves a copy of the object.

Of course, you can use the Selection tool to click-and-drag an object to reposition it manually. If you hold down the Option (Windows: Alt) key while dragging, Illustrator moves a copy of the selection. If an object is filled with a pattern, holding down the tilde (max tutorial) key while dragging adjusts the positioning of the pattern without moving the object.

Question by Jihanemo: Can any suggest a trick for making flat colors looks shiny/metallic in Adobe Photoshop CS2?

Okay. I’m not sure if this is on all Adobe photoshops but…..

Up at the top in filter, go to filter gallery and one of them is a chrome effect, however this makes the whole thing look like silver chrome

Another option would be if you go to the very bottom right, where there is that column of squares, on the bottom square for layers there is a “f” with a circle around it, click on it and go to bevel and emboss, that might give you the look you are going for

Layer Masking: Photoshop CS4 Making it Easier

Photoshop CS4 is one advanced photo editing and graphic designing program from the house of Adobe Systems. The program is used across industries today for different image editing projects and the porn web design industry also highly relies on it. When a Porn site design professional works on Photoshop CS4, he often needs to combine multiple images so as to make one new composite image. While doing so, the designer can take full advantage of a feature called Layer Masking. Layer Masking is nothing but the black-and-white area attached to the layer thumbnail and it contains all transparency information. Layer Masks allows a designer to mask or hide part of a layer by using painting as well as selection tools. The more one works with multiple images, the more he/she uses the layer masks.

By clicking the icon looking like a small circle inside a square on the layers tab, you can create a mask with your text type layer.

The Brush Tool can give superior result to a porn website designer while working with layer masks. With the correct layer selected, you can press the “B” key on the keyboard to activate the Brush Tool. You will see several brush options appearing at the top. Ensure that the brush color is set to Black. And once everything has been set properly, you can go ahead with start brushing over your text.

Making Youtube Videos: Safety Tips You Should Know

Do you enjoy making short videos or movies? If you do, you will love YouTube.  YouTube is an online video sharing website that lets internet users, like you, upload videos that they made to the website, where they can be viewed by others.  Although it is fun and exciting to make and share your own YouTube videos, you will want to display some caution when doing so.  Posting videos on YouTube can be dangerous, especially if improperly done. That is why it is advised that you always keep internet safety in the back of your mind, when creating your YouTube videos.

Perhaps, the most important safety tip that you need to remember is to protect your identity.  You will want to refrain from mentioning your name in your YouTube videos, especially your full name.  You will also want to refrain from mentioning your address in any of your YouTube videos.  While you may think that mentioning the city or town that you live in is okay, as long as you don’t give your street address, you may want to rethink doing so. There are a large number of internet users who are resourceful; with the right information, they can easily find out important information about you, including where you live.

One of the reasons why YouTube is so popular, aside from the fact that you can watch or upload movies to the YouTube site for free, is the fact that you can rate, leave comments, or talk about YouTube videos with other internet users.  If you talk with certain members enough you may end up developing a close online friendship with them.  Still, it is advised that you keep the previously mentioned safety tip in mind; do not give out any of your personal information.  Whenever you use the internet, whether you are using YouTube or not, you need to remember that it is difficult, if not impossible, to verify who is sitting behind the computer screen on the other end of your conversation.  No matter what online exchanges take place, you will want to protect your identity. 

When it comes to internet users further researching you, many YouTube video submitters wonder why anyone would do such a thing.  While different individuals have different motives, you should always assume that those motives are not in your best interest.  As stated above, different internet users have different motives, but one thing that seems to motivate them is seductive or attractive looking internet users.  Even if you are creating a video blog or a comedy skit, you will want to keep a close eye on your appearance.  Of course, you will want to look your best, but you want to be sure not to take it too far, as many can misinterpret your intentions; possibly putting you in harms way.

It is also advised that you be careful with what you post online, if you are making a video of yourself and your friends.  You need to make sure that all video stars know your intentions of posting the video for sharing on YouTube.  If you have a video that you shot candidly, you need to use your best judgment.  You want to be cautious of ingraining on anyone’s privacy, as it may not only reflect negatively on you, but it may also land you in hot water. It is also advised that you refrain from posting clips of movies, television shows, or music videos that you do not have rights to.  This is a violation of copyright.  In most cases, your YouTube video will simply be pulled, but, in rare instances, you may be faced with legal action.

The previously mentioned safety tips are just a few of the many that you will want to keep in mind, when making a video to upload on to the YouTube website.  In all honesty, it is best if you just use your best judgment.  Should you feel uncomfortable doing something, like just making a YouTube video in general, you are advised to listen to your gut, as it is often the best sign of trouble to come.

Primary Tips in Making an Art Collage

Art collage is created by piecing together of assorted images and clippings to have a work of art. Though, there are actually several types of art collages such as collage in painting, collage with wood and Decoupage, which makes use of multiple copies of the same image, cut and layered to provide apparent depth. The trick of creating an art collage is to really make it functional, and ideal for beginning artists or established artists who would like to diversify their art. Besides looking at various papers and mixed media materials, artists may also generate collages on many different areas. There are some basic principles of collage that result in much better compositions and improved archival qualities.

Here are some fundamental key points when designing your personal collage.

First you must make a decision what art collage material to work with. There are several artists who would rather work with paper only for their collages. Although, there are a variety of different kinds of materials you may use such as handcrafted paper, which frequently has fibers, leaves or other elements on top. You can even use gift-wrapping paper, new or vintage postcards, old and new stamps or publication images. Some artists use personal items to their collages such as candy wrappers, boarding pass, tickets to the cinema and many more. Some art collages can sometimes include beads, shells, wax, and bits of jewelry or coins into their compositions.

Second step will be to select a collage surface primed installed canvas is an excellent support for collages, particularly those that are so layered or heavy that they might fold paper. Other collage artists’ make use of set up canvas panels, slabs of wood, shipping tags, baseball cards (sometimes called Artist Trading Cards or ATCs) or thick paper. Collage also works on furniture, particularly stools, tables, cabinets and shadow bins, but it’s called decoupage.

Third step is the collage prep and polishing off. Whenever you will work with papers of various fullness it is preferable and beneficial to close up the surface of each collage component to help keep if from bending or curling up. A great technique is to casually coat one side of the art collage with a flat gel and allow it to dry. It may slightly curl up, but covering the other side can make it even. Once both sides are dry, you may make your art collage extra flat by putting it between two sheets of wax paper and weighting it through the night. This technique may also be done with a completed collage that’s on the lean paper. If you are completely finished with the art collage, you might want to casually coat the whole surface with matte or gloss gel to keep the pieces in place.

Art collage is a fun bonding pastime for you, family members and friends to try and do with each other. Making an art collage may bring out the artistic side in your children or enjoy the time of creating a collage with your partner or best friend. Just remember the three basic key points when starting an art collage project, determine which material to make use of, pick a collage surface and preparation and finishing. Once you’ve identified all three steps both you and your love ones will be ready to start your art collage, enjoy!

i would like to do film making but i think i am too old and my character is unsuited to collaborative film production.

i have very specific ideas i want to film. chances are if i even tried to get into the film industry it would be years before i could try my ides out…and i dont have the patience to wait.

how do video artists that have never reached the publics attention earn their living?
do they sell to advertising.
do they look for commissions?
do they try to collaborate with animators?
do they sell to film archives?
how do they get galleries interested in their work.
can they sell to people who want background visuals for their own projects?

The correct answer is the one you don’t want. The fact is, there is no easy way. If there were, there would be 100 times the number of video artists or photographers.

It takes tremendous patience, and self promotion is often not enough to get people to spend their money on your work. Most people buy what’s popular rather than what’s good. If they think you’re a hot commodity or have an established reputation, they’ll buy your work, but you have to build a reputation first, and that takes time. You can’t just show up with a nice portfolio and expect them to give you a job or money. Obviously, if you’re tremendously talented and have a unique vision, it could be an instant hit, but how many people have the money to spend to tell people? Not many.

Don’t give up on collaborative film production. Most successful artists do things they don’t want to do, or dilute their artistic vision at someone else’s direction so that they can make a living and/or build a reputation. If you’re talented, it will shine through even if it’s not exactly how you would have done it. Eventually once you’re recognized as a talent, you’ll get a shot to do it your way.

The last option is to go it alone. You’ll have to spend significant amounts of your own money with no guarantee of success.

Making The Most Of Film School

With the proliferation of television and cable stations and our nations  addiction to ‘all things visual’ especially movies, more and more students are choosing to attend one of the nations Film and Television schools in order to enter the world of entertainment and broadcasting.  As someone who has attended both the NYU and USC film/television programs, I thought I should outline how to make the most of a structured film program to increase your chances of success in the industry after graduation.

Explore Then Specialize

One of the great things about film school is that it gives you the chance to explore different areas of film and television production.  During the first year or two I always advise students to try the unfamiliar and take risks with different roles, styles and techniques.  Perhaps you thought before enrolling you wanted to be a director but after you do the lighting for a film you realize you love cinematography.  Or perhaps you never worked with sound before and find yourself spending hours and hours creating amazing soundscapes for something you or a friend shot.  One thing to be sure you delve into is screenwriting.  While a discipline in itself that is separate from production, being familiar with story and screenplay and tv structure is very important for anyone working in the film or television business.

It is through experimenting that you can see where your natural strengths and weaknesses lie.  Remember, although many people are in film school have dreamed all their lives of being a great Director or Producer, the vast majority of time you must work your way up through the industry by working in a specific area.  Eventually, through various ways you can make the leap to Directing or Producing your own projects.  The ways to go about making that leap is complex enough for many articles so we won’t go into that here, but it is a good idea to have an idea of what kind of position you want after you graduate and hone your skills in school for that specific role while you are still a student.

Network

The Film and Television industries are very social industries.  The vast majority of people in ‘the business’ work with many of the same people over and over again and it is all based on friendships and close working relationships.  Film school is your first opportunity to create a starting network that you will then leverage when out of school to make the leap into the legitimate industry.  Make sure to be involved in as many clubs and go to as many functions as you can.  Make your goal to meet every person in your class, as well as the classes above and below you.  The larger your network of potential contacts and friends then the greater your source will be to find out about jobs in the industry.  Also, it is a good idea to work on as many fellow student films as possible so you can both meet the other students as well is see who the most talented at specific roles are.  This is especially useful if you plan to direct a thesis or do a production after graduation and want to hire friends that are the best at what they do for your production.

Internships

Internships can be an incredible resource for the aspiring film and television careerist.  Through internships you can not only get great experience in an area you are interested in, but you can also create great relationships that often lead to your first job out of school.  Also, for those thinking of moving to NY or LA that go to school outside of those areas, an internship with a recognized company is a great thing to have on your resume to stand out from the crowd and land your first gig.  The more specialized your interest and the more specific you can make your internship to ‘shape’ your resume the better.

Thesis/Final Project

Depending on the Film and Television program you are in, you might have the opportunity to do either a Thesis or Final project.  Often this involves Directing, Writing and sometimes Producing your own project along with other students as part of your ‘crew’.  This project can be used for several purposes depending on how well done it is and what format and length it is in.  Some use it as a chance to enter short or if long enough, feature film festivals.  Still others use it as a way of showing off the particular talents that they are good at.  This could be a short film that has very exquisite and complicated lighting scenarios or camera work for those trying to get into cinematography or camera operation.  Or it can be a very well directed or art directed film for those careers.  Just as you kept the ‘big picture’ in mind of what your intention is after graduation, the ‘Final Project’ can be a key part in your ‘portfolio’ to obtain work or a job after graduation.  For more great information about film schools please visit www.USCfilmschool.com

Making Creating Computer Icons into a Family Activity!

You’ve had a bad day at work—a really bad day at work. You have one month to create a brand new computer icon for a project that’s been going on for years. The project is awesome—never before seen coding, lots of special features. Naturally, they want the best icon that they can have!
So the question is—how exactly do you manage to get this from point a to point b, without getting completely and utterly stressed out and being in need of an extension on the project deadline? Well, first of all, you have to understand that you don’t have to do all of this work by yourself…in fact, you can enlist the help of your family!
First of all, have everyone think of ideas for an icon—and create the most popular ones without color. Sounds good so far, huh? Let them know that you want a really simple icon that doesn’t have a bunch of stuff going on! Kids are great at really simple designs—you won’t have to worry about a really young child coming up with something they deem to be “revolutionary!” And if you really want, it’s easier to convince them to let you change one little thing in their design to make it better!
Next, blow up and print out your computer icons as coloring pages and sit down and color with them. Try and point everyone towards certain colors, but don’t omit the rainbow just because your company mainly embraces those two colors. It’ll give you a better idea of other colors that you can incorporate.
Now it’s time to start pulling out the icon editors—have your family, one by one, sit with you with each of their icon ideas and have them give you instructions for designing their icon. Older kids may want to play with the icon editors themselves—if you trust them not to accidentally mess anything up, allow them to. It gives you a break and more of a chance to check things over. Try and give everyone a chance.
Keep in mind that if you aren’t really much of an artist that there are plenty of libraries containing free images that you can use without being sued for copyright. This might take some time, but keep in mind that you have a lot of photos to use—even if you have to go through each library and decide what exactly you plan on using.
If you have to present many ideas, go from here.  You don’t necessarily have to give your family credit (although it is kind of cute. However, if your boss will find it unprofessional, it’s best to keep this information to yourself), but it’s a nice idea. Take your time to give an explanation of each of the computer icons that you are presenting. Be clear and concise.
These are just a few tips for turning what would be an abnormally boring and stressful project creating computer icons into something that you and the whole family can do!

I’m trying to record sound while shooting a short movie. I have a panasonic DVX 100 and would like to buy some audio equiptment to be able to record sound so I don’t have to use the camcorder sound…

You’ll want an external shotgun microphone like the Sennheiser K6/ME66, mounted over-head on a boom with a special shock-mount holder, and connected with an XLR cable to the DVX-100 inputs.

The Sennheiser is a workhorse and widely used in the industry. This should run you about $ 500 or so.

Its also important to have a boom operator to position the mic over the actors and follow them during each take without creating any extra noise or dipping the mic in to the shot.
