How to color behind the black lines in adobe photoshop elements 9?

Question by Alicia: How to color behind the black lines in adobe photoshop elements 9?
I have adobe photoshop elements 9 and I want to color in a hand drawn picture on my computer but in all the tutorials I’ve watched they have always colored behind the lines of the actual picture. I can’t figure out how to do this on my version of photoshop so if anyone knows how to, please tell me. It would be a big help and I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I use GIMP, but Photoshop has the same features. Put a new layer over the hand-drawn picture and set it to multiply. Color on that layer and it should go over the original hand-drawn layer while remaining behind the black lines.

You need to use layers.

Use your line drawing as a separate layer and change it’s setting to ”Multiply”. You’ll see at the top of the layers toolbox, it defaults at ”Normal” click the drop down arrow, and you’ll find ”Multiply”

Then add a new layer to add your colours. Your black lines will show through the colour and the white will become transparent.

How do you turn on “guide lines” in Photoshop CS3?

Question by mondoguitar: How do you turn on “guide lines” in Photoshop CS3?
I just re-installed my computer and I’m having problems getting all my settings back to normal in Photoshop. I used to have it setup where if I was dragging a layer it would show me all the “guide lines” of what I was lined up with and then snap into those positions. Now it still snaps into different positions, but I don’t see the lines to show me what it’s lining up with. These are for webpage templates, so I need to know exactly what parts I’m in line with.

I know its a simple CTRL + ? command, but can’t find it in the help section because I don’t know the technical term for it.

First person to help get these lines to display when dragging will get best answer :)

Thanks.
Thanks, but I’m not looking for the grid turned on… I’m looking for the purple “guide lines” that adjust as you drag objects (layers) around the template. If you drag a portion of text to the center, a purple line will appear down the middle of the page. THAT is what I’m trying to find, but thanks.
Found it… VIEW > SHOW > SMART GUIDES :)

Ctrl + ‘

Ctrl + Shift + ‘ is what’s causing the Snap to Grid feature.

In Adobe Illustrator how do you make lines around a picture that look like cut out lines to clip a coupon?

Question by mermaid007: In Adobe Illustrator how do you make lines around a picture that look like cut out lines to clip a coupon?
I want to add a “coupon” on a Adobe Illustrator flyer. I want to make the little broken lines around it like a place where you can cut around a coupon.

Answer by amybeader
Create a rectangle around the coupon text. At the bottom of the tools palette, select the little square that indicates Stroke (so you get an outline of the rectangle), deselect the fill icon (there’s a little box below that with a red line through it, indicating it will disable the fill). Now open your Stroke palette. Make sure all the options are showing. At the bottom part is a section for creating a dashed stroke, you can set the length of the dash and the amount of space between each dash (it’s done in pixels). You can also select how thick that dashed line will be by changing the stroke thickness in that same palette. Play around with it until you get something you like. If you’re having trouble, make sure that rectangle is selected before you start created your dashed stroke.

Question by Frustrated Adobe User: How do I see the “guide” lines (those blue lines) in Adobe photoshop Elements 6.0?
I’m using a new version of photoshop elements 6.0
I click on the ruler to drag them in and nothing appears
I’ve tried searching the internet for tutorials but I can’t find anything
Please help!

Answer by crsimon36
Drag out guide lines have never been in Elements. In Elements there is a grid that can be turned on and off. First go to Edit > Preferences > Rulers and Grid and set up how you want it to appear. Then menu View > Grid to turn on and off.
