Question by chrisbouch2002: How can I re-launch adobe CS4 after they shut it off on my computer for a false code?
So I bought a copy of CS4 online and it turns out to be illegal–as I went to download the updates, adobe shut it off. I now have a legal copy, but adobe still says it’s invalid. Any idea how/what I can do here? Do I have to call adobe to get them to re-recognize my computer?

An Introduction to Using Code Snippets in Flash CS5 and max tutorial

ActionScript 3.0 has been available since 2006 and has been enhancing the power of Flash tremendously since then. However, even though most experienced ActionScript programmers would agree that ActionScript 3.0 (AS3) is easier to use than earlier versions of ActionScript, many Flash users have still not yet made the transition to AS3. The main reason cited for this is that many users found AS3 difficult to get started with, and AS3 has lacked good tools to assist beginners. This absence has been rectified with the introduction of the Code Snippets panel in Flash CS5.

A code snippet is a piece of prewritten ActionScript code, usually accompanied by explanatory comments. Flash CS5 ships with dozens of code snippets that allow users to accomplish many of the most common ActionScript tasks without writing a line of syntax. There are code snippets for linking to a URL, navigating the Flash timeline, changing and animating properties of a MovieClip, loading all manner of external content, playing sounds and video, and many other common tasks.

In addition to being a good way to avoid writing any ActionScript, code snippets are a good tool for helping beginners to learn ActionScript. By examining the code that is written using code snippets, beginners can get comfortable with the ActionScript syntax used to perform common tasks. The comments included with the built-in code snippets include instructions for customizing and modifying the code snippets, and from there it is not a big step to writing your own ActionScript files. More experienced programmers can even make their own code snippets for reusing or sharing frequently used chunks of ActionScript code.

The following exercise will introduce you to the basics of working with code snippets. You will need Flash CS5 to open the .fla file that is included with this tutorial. You can download a free trial version of Flash CS5 at

Downloading the Example Files

To begin the example, download the max tutorial file and open the codesnippets_start.fla file from the unarchived folder in Flash CS5. This file has graphics laid out on the stage for a simple interactive project but contains no ActionScript and has no functionality. You will use code snippets to add the functionality to this project.

Arrange your Flash workspace so that you can see the Stage, the Timeline, the Properties Inspector, the Actions panel, and the Code Snippets panel (seemax tutorial).
Highlight the tabbed graphic that says “Text”, noticed in the Properties inspector, that this is a movie clip with the instance name page1_mc. This movie clip contains an instance of the TextArea component, which has the instance name field1_txt. You will use a code snippet to load an external text file into the TextArea component when this tab is clicked.
The second “Video” tab is a movie clip with the instance name page2_mc and contains an instance of the FLVPlayback component which has been given the instance name vidPlayer. The FLVPlayback component is used to load, play and control video files. You will use a code snippet to load an external video file into the vidPlayer component when this tab is clicked.
The third “Images” tab is a movie clip named page3_mc. You will use a code snippet to load an external JPEG image when this tab is clicked.
Click on the orange star, and note that it is a movie clip with the instance name star_mc. You will soon add code to make this image become a custom cursor.
Click the text that reads “Go to URL”. This is a text field with the instance name URL_txt. You will use a code snippet to navigate to a URL in your default browser when this text is clicked.

Are you having trouble setting up your website because you are not sure how to get your PSD files to display correctly online? This is a common scenario that online business owners face because they hired someone to design their posters, logos and other promotional materials in Photoshop. Photoshop is a professional class software that many designers use to deliver cutting edge graphic images.

The problem is, the source file of the graphic images is saved as PSD file formats. PSD file format is the format recognized by Photoshop software. It is not a web friendly file format, and hence, that poses problems for anyone who wants to publish PSD files on the Internet.

On the Internet, there are many different types of coding languages used. The most commonly seen languages used are the HTML language, and the XHTML language. HTML stands for hyper text markup language, and XHTML stands for Extensive hyper text markup language. XHTML is similar to HTML, except that it also works with XML syntax.

There are industry standards governing both HTML and XHTML. So which do you choose? Both languages will allow you to display your PSD files on the Internet the way you want. In general, converting PSD files to XHTML may cost you more. So if you don’t need to work with XML, you may want to convert PSD to static HTML files.

The conversion process is not difficult if you know what you are doing. However, the process can be time consuming. Usually, the conversion process starts off by flattening the graphic image.

On the image, you may then have to decide on how you want the image to appear. Are there specific areas you want to be clickable? Or do you just want a static image that is fast loading?

Once you are clear about what you want to achieve, be sure to communicate that to whoever is responsible for the conversion. Based on your instructions, the actual conversion then starts to take place.

The image may be spliced using special software, and exported in HTML format – the way you want it. The files are then uploaded to the server so that you can assess the work. Be sure to check out the web page with different web browsers to ensure that there are no compatibility issues. If there is anything that needs to be changed, you can always make special requests.

Professional coders will be able to hand code the HTML or XHTML for you. The code can then be checked for W3C validity – the industry accepted standard.

The main benefit of having a PSD file converted to static HTML or XHTML is that you can edit the web page any time you want. Once the slicing is done, and the conversion completed, you can easily update the web page using simple HTML tags.

Web designers work a lot on Photoshop. Very few of them know how to code and take the steps to convert their designs into CSS/HTML/XHTML. So they normally outsource their coding part and keep themselves intact with designing only. For those who are not familiar with the “the know how” of HTML coding, this article can be a little help for them.

It is not hard to convert your design into validate CSS/HTML/XHTML markup, but what makes the difference is how well you are able to do it! Because at last, it is the “quality” of your coding which brings out the performance of the web page, and the reason for which any designers outsource their coding part to some professional. Ex: – If your web page contains many pictures, it would take time to load, but using CSS code with either HTML or XHTML will make it fast.

There are many tutorials one could find over the Internet but to understand those prototypes, you need to have the basic knowledge of coding. I would try to answer the question “How to convert a PSD into validate CSS/HTML/XHTML”, but for that you need to focus and spare sometime to this article.

Steps included in conversion:-

1) Open your Photoshop and select an existing PSD file which is to be sliced, from the file menu of the Photoshop application’s main menu.

2) Once the PSD file is selected, go back to the file menu and select Edit in Image Ready option from the list. It will open the file in Image Ready.

3) Now select slice tool from tools palette which can be either on right or left hand side, vertically. This tool will help us to slice the document the way we want. Ex: – you can pick and slice the document to get the header, menu pictures etc., properly.

4) Once you are through with the slicing, you will notice those sliced area (areas) sinking into blue color. This indicates “slicing”.

Imp:- Never slice an image twice as it will only increase your burden.

5) The next important step is to define the output parameter. This will convert the slices into pictures along with coding.

6) Define output parameters to start the process: -

a. Click the file menu, open output settings, and choose the CSS export link.

b. An output setting box will appear on screen, along with many options.

c. Now, select the custom option within output setting, you will get two options- slice output and generate (CSS) ( generate html which uses CSS to represent slices).

d. Click ‘ok’ after defining output options. You have validated the settings but the file is yet to be created.

e. Now, this is the final step. Save the result using “save optimized”, inside the file menu.

f. The job is done; image ready will create an “image” folder with all sliced images and html file containing all source codes.

g. If you wish to see or edit the code, just open the file in your browser and display the code. Extract the code generated by Photoshop or image ready.

h. You are done now, your codes are with you but you might need to modify them with your own and nip some part of it.

Now if you think that you got it right and this article delivered you some valuable knowledge on slicing and HTML conversion, then you can surely dissect your web design and experiment it on a web site. Why convert PSD to HTML? Some web designers create websites in CSS files. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. This is a technique of designing web pages that allows changes to be made on all the web pages just by changing some code in one file. Web designers use PSD file formats to store these web pages. However, it is not possible to use these in the format that they are saved in along with HTML code, the generally accepted code for web site design.

When a web designer receives a CD containing PSD images he or she needs to convert them to HTML in order to use them on web pages or to edit the images. This can easily be done using the program that was used to create the PSD, which is Adobe Photoshop. The .PSD file extension is used with Photoshop. So, to convert a PSD to HTML one can do one of three things, use Adobe Photoshop to convert the file to another format, use a PSD converter or hire a professional to hard code the PSD to HTML code(a web page or web pages).

Many graphic web designers design web pages and save them as PSD files. Because this type of file opens with a very expensive software called Adobe Photoshop and because this type of file is becoming increasingly popular many software programmers have developed software that can open and work with PSD file extensions. There are a few less expensive programs that are compatible with PSD files.

Using these programs web designers can buy PSD template files and work around them in their graphic programs then integrate the images into HTML by imbedding them as images in the code of their site.

However, not every one is conversant with working with images in Photoshop or the other software that can open and alter PSD files. They need to hire professionals who can convert PSD to HTML code for them. These professionals will use the exact technique as mentioned earlier. They will use Photoshop or its compatiblesoftware, slice the images and save them as JPEG or GIF images and integrate the images in the HTML.

Entire web templates are available in PSD formats. These can be used as it or they can be opened in an imaging software and reworked to suit the theme of the site being developed. It is possible to change around the size of the images in the PSD or change the background even change the images as well to entirely different images.

Txt boxes can be placed in layers and buttons can be added or removed from the PSD template then the PSD to HTML or PSD to CSS conversion is carried out by hard coding the image to fit into HTML frames or layers. If a webmaster is proficient with working with imagingsoftware it is not problem but if not then the job will obviously have to be outsourced to some contractor such as a freelance professional who can do a great job converting PSD to HTML and producing a quality website in the bargain.
