Congratulations – the big day is just around the corner!

Now, you just have to find a wedding photographer to capture all of those special moments. Unfortunately, not all wedding photographers are the same. In the following article, I would like to give you a few more hints on how to find just the right photographer for you.

First off, there are two categories of wedding photographers. Those who have a career in the field and those who do not. There are pros and cons of both sides.

Career Photographer (Pros)

- Experience, but they might not be talented

- Large client basis and lots of reviews

- Likely to have more equipment

Career Photographer (Cons)

- Could be less creative, as your wedding is just another way to make money
- Likely to charge for photo rights (that could be hundreds of dollars)

- You are paying for them to take your pictures NOT necessarily to give them to you. (Read the fine print)

- The equipment could be older

- The photographer might not be as familiar with present technology (Photoshop or digital cameras)

- Expensive!!

Not a Career Photographer (Pros)

- Each event is something new and exciting

- Flexibility – these photographers are likely to work around you, as they are not trying to make ends meet by offering the services.

- Pricing tends to be lower and more affordable

- Diamond in the rough

- Likely to give photo rights free of charge

Not a Career Photographer (Cons)

- Not as much experience, but they might be talented!

- Not likely to have an assistant or second photographer (If they do, ask about who that person will be.)

- They don’t have as big of a portfolio

- They don’t have the advertisement basis that the bigger studios have

Overall, you can see that there are differences. When looking for a photographer you should look at the images. It really doesn’t matter how many weddings a photographer has shot as long as they have been doing a lot of portrait photography. So, is the photographer good at capturing a face? Does he or she know facial structure and how to work with different skin colors, textures, and bone structures?

Questions to ask your photographer and the answers they should give.

1) Do you shoot in RAW or Jpeg? Can you tell me the difference?

- RAW is a setting on the camera that allows a higher quality image after post editing. While a Jpeg image can be edited, the amount of editing is limited to a few things. RAW allows image exposure, clarity, contrast, blacks, lights, saturation, vibrancy, shadows, highlights, color balance, and many more items to be changed without hurting the photograph. The quality is not lost with RAW as it is with Jpeg. RAW is like having a blank slate while Jpeg is like having an already filled white board.

A photographer should shoot in RAW.

2) Have you photographed anything besides people and landscapes?

- A wedding photographer should be prepared to shoot inanimate objects such as table decorations, cakes, rings, and other such treasures.

3) Do you edit the images?

- This is a big one. Most photographers will indeed edit; however, find out what editing means to the photographer. Does that mean using iphoto and playing with contrast or does that mean using Photoshop CS2 or above? CS3 is an amazing program that allows professionals to edit the images. Look for a photographer that has a few years of experience with Photoshop, if they are shooting digital.

4) Who gets the photo rights.

- I can’t stress this one enough! I have talked to so many photographers who were going to charge their clients up to $300 for photo rights. In other words, the photographer would make the couple a disk of the images, allowing them to send the images to friends and family. To be honest it takes maybe 15 minutes to make a disk. Legally, however, the photographer does own the images even though you are paying for a wedding photographer. You are really just paying for the service unless you have rights in the contract. Although prints are nice, having the edited images will be worth it! It should also be cheaper than $300, but then again, that’s just my opinion.

5) Male or Female? Weird question, but it might make a difference to you.
- Personally, I have no preference, but often brides are not excited about having a strange man in the dressing room photographing them getting ready. The reality is that although a male photographer might be the most skilled photographer around, he might also just not make you feel comfortable, so if you are wanting those precious images of getting ready keep that in mind and figure out how to work around it by only having him photograph parts of it, or go with a woman if you can’t get used to the idea.

I hope that helps!

Special Event Videography & Tips on How to Choose the Right Editing Software for You

So, you turned up to film the special event early, you were well dressed, professional, spookily coordinated and sober, you remembered all your equipment and you did some of your best camera work to date. In fact if the Academy Awards had a category for Best Camera Work in a Bah Mitzvah, â??Journey to Manhoodâ??, youâ??d be legless at a post Awards party swinging your Oscar round your head while snogging Paris Hilton/ Lindsay Lohan.

But what now? You have the impressive footage now youâ??ve got to put it all together. You have to tell a story, put the right bits in the right place. Youâ??ve watched TV before, seen the odd film, how hard can it be, right? Well, actually, itâ??s quite difficult, otherwise everyone would do it. But you can simplify matters by having the right software, the right technology and being organized.

Digital film is manipulated using a nonlinear editor. You can make changes to your Bah Mitzvah footage simply by clicking and dragging clips or segments around on a timeline. You can work non-sequentially, back to front, (interesting for Bris films) audio first vision later, multiple media layers, import, export and enhance various types of assets, your options are endless as are your choices in editing suites.

But how do you choose the right one for you. Well, it all depends on a number of factors. If you have trouble using an electric kettle, you may be better off contracting out the editing part, if however, you are reasonably comfortable using a computer then Google the info and make an informed decision.

Firstly though, you need a good computer with oodles of RAM, a good individually powered graphics card, a large sized monitor or two, plenty of memory (preferably external hard drives) and a good back up system. If you donâ??t have the RAM or minimum duo or preferably quad core processor then you might as well take out your digital video tape and with scissors and sticky tape physically edit it all together. (Just to be clearâ?¦this will NOT work!)

Now based upon your computer specs we can look at what software is available to you, factoring into this is also your budget. You can spend anywhere from a hundred dollars to a couple of thousand and remember, you will get what you pay for. Also if you are charging your client a couple of grand for a special event film, you really should not edit it using the stock standard, Windows Movie Maker. If your client has a better NLE and can not only operate the kettle but there is cappuccino machine on the breakfast bar, do not take the job because they will have the ability and manual dexterity to make a better movie than you. Refund their deposit immediately.

Lastly letâ??s look at what you want to do with the software. Do you want to use multiple cameras? Matrix special effects? Or do you want to use simply transitions and one layer of audio at a time (really? Do you have a Fisher & Price camera to go with that?). Aim your software requirements at roughly double your current editing skill. You will learn with necessity and it is nice to discover you have a tool available to you that you didnâ??t know or need to know how to use at the time. Donâ??t be overwhelmed. A cheap way to learn and make a good purchasing decision is with trial software. You will find most well known NLE manufacturers will give you a trial software download option. Use it and practice and eventually you will find the NLE that suits you and in no time you will be producing quality work and also a pretty impressive café latte.

How to Choose A Professional Printing and Graphics Service Provider

When choosing a printer, consider their experience, reputation, and commitment to quality and service. Is price an issue? Absolutely, but not the most important issue.  Look for a printer who pays attention to detail, who has expertise with design software, who has solid, well cultivated knowledge of the printing process, and who has a thorough understanding of postal regulations.

SERVICE

A good printer has knowledgeable staff to guide you. They can assist you with paper and ink selections and recommend a cost-effective approach to produce your project. Check their reputation for delivering on time. Do you feel comfortable working with them? Do they return your calls promptly? Are they professional and courteous?

CAPABILITY

Some printers offer a full range of services, while other printers provide to a specific niche. Determine what you need, and select a printer who is positioned to meet that need. If your project requires printing and mailing, consider the benefit of choosing a printer with in-house mailing services.

QUALITY

Make sure that the quality produced by the printer you are considering meets your standard. Ask for samples of products they have printed that are similar to yours.  Inquire if they have the equipment and technology necessary to produce the quality you require â?? computer-to-plate workflow; state-of-the-art digital proofing system; modern, high-speed digital print engines, and multi-unit offset presses for full-color printing. Most importantly, ask about the experience of their production team, their commitment to quality, and the processes in place to assure constancy of quality.

PRICE

The worst way to choose a printer is to base your decision exclusively on price. The old adage, “You get what you pay for,” certainly applies here. If you want to get a quality product, printed.

How to Choose a Graphic Design Firm

First, let me say that I am an independent graphic designer. My business model dictates that I only hire additional artists and professionals on a per-project basis, so I expand and contract as needed. It allows my business to be highly competitive and flexible in the talent I select.

Admittedly, I’m interested in gaining your business, however I can be objective in shedding some light on the process of choosing design services. This article is based on my years of experience and observations within the design community.

The Graphic Designer
The core of any creative work is the designer. Each one comes with a varying degree of talent and experience, whether they’re independent or part of a firm. Many independents or “freelancers”, as some call them, have years of experience with established firms. Personally, I don’t like the term freelancer, because it carries the stigma of a lack of talent, experience, and professionalism. It also leaves the impression that they cannot find gainful employment.

Freelance Design
Designers aren’t certified or licensed (I think we should be), so anyone can call themselves a graphic designer. Unfortunately, there are some who have the above traits, and they are cheaper to use in the short-term. The long-term downside is that your project may be beyond the scope of their abilities. In addition, they may not have a good understanding of the creative process, fail to anticipate technical issues and normal expenses, and use unlicensed materials to cut costs. All of this can translate into a disappointing solution, and possibly legal issues in the future. When it comes to something as valuable as the perception of your company and future sales of your product or service, “cheap” should never be the focus.

Professional Design
Professional designers can be with a firm or independent. They typically have formal training in design or visual communications, and may have additional experience in related fields such as advertising or marketing. They follow the customs and procedures of the design industry, use specific contracts, and devote the needed time to the creative process. A professional will be more expensive, but cost shouldn’t be a top consideration in hiring design services. Good design doesn’t cost money…it makes money…far more than the initial design investment, through increased revenue and exposure to potential customers.

Large Firms (Size Matters … Sometimes)
A large design firm will give you a sense of stability just by the sheer size of their portfolio, number of staff, and resources available. They offer a wide variety of services across several media such as radio, TV, print, etc.. If that’s your situation a large firm should be your focus. On the other hand, if your project is within a specific area or two such as web, print, or multimedia, a small firm or independent designer may be an excellent choice.

Another consideration is teamwork. As the saying goes, “two heads are better than one.” Depending on the scope of the project different perspectives during the concept phase can be a distinct advantage. While multi-person firms assign a design team, many independent designers overcome this by having their work critiqued by fellow designers or submitting their work to online design forums for review.

Small Firms and Independents
Small firms and independents may not have a sample of your specific need, so it’s important to look at the solutions they’ve provided other clients. They tend to be more motivated in getting your business, so you’ll often get a more personal level of service, and work directly with the person responsible for your project. Furthermore, you’ll generally pay less due to reduced overhead costs. In many cases independent designers will have more design experience than the combined years of a design team at an agency. Many talented designers tend to either move up the ladder or start their own firm due to pay ceilings at a firm.

Variety of talent is another consideration. Large firms may have one or two copywriters or illustrators on staff to choose from. Small firms and independents have the flexibility of offering several established outside vendors to specifically fit your individual tastes, style and preferences.

Also, consider that the designer or designers working at a large firm may not be particularly interested or excited about your project, or even proficient in that area of design; they don’t have control of what’s assigned to them. While this may or may not be the case at a small firm, an independent designer will typically have a high level of interest and motivation, because they want to expand their portfolio and client list…especially if your project type or industry is new to them. If they contacted you it’s likely they’ve already done some background research on your company.

Finally, with advances in computer technology and declining prices, independents and small firms use the same or higher levels of hardware and software as large firms. They also don’t have to go through the approval process and internal IT departments, so their upgrades happen in days rather than months.

Conclusion
When you are looking for design services remember that you don’t have to know exactly what you need; that’s what a design professional is for. They will offer specific solutions according to your needs. If price is a concern, be up front about it and ask for a range of two or three estimates. Be aware that the lower figures mean that less time will be devoted to research and concept development; it doesn’t mean that the designer is reducing their hourly rate. Less time translates into a less creative and unique piece.

Start by interviewing several designers and design firms before making a decision. Ask them what their hourly rate for creative work is, and view their portfolios. If you’re happy with the solutions they’ve provided other clients, comfortable with the way they present themselves, and think you’d enjoy working with them…hire them. Clients who understand the value of good design realize that a talented designer has the ability to influence their existing and potential market; create a positive perception of their business, and ultimately increase their revenue.

Ehr Software- How to Choose the Right System

EHR stands for Electronic Health Records. As your scale your medical business, it’s only a matter of time before you become dependent of EHR software to help run your business. As the owner of a medical practice, you know very well the operational issues at hand. There are so many tasks involved that sometimes, even the most experienced staff find it overwhelming. On top of that, some of the operational issues are repetitive, and that means boring and mundane work.

Fortunately, technology can be a really big help, if you know how to implement reliable systems to automate most of the processes. In general, there are two ways you can use software to manage your medical records. You can choose to use web based software, or you can opt to use standalone desktop software. Both has its pros and cons. You may need to spend some time assessing each type of software in order to come to a wise buying decision. Here are some issues that you may wish to consider.

Ease of use and implementation.

Medical practice staff are not known to be tech savvy. If the software is too complicated, many hours of training may be required for the staff to master the software. This may delay the implementation time line. For instance, if you are looking at standalone EHR software solutions, the software should be easy to install, intuitive to use, and customizable. You don’t want to be stuck with something that makes matters worse.

Integration with other medical software.

Many medical practices may already have some kind of existing medical software installed. The right EHR software should be able to integrate seamlessly with most of the leading software in the market. For example, you may already have Practice Management Systems, or document management systems, etc. The EHR software should be able to work side by side with such existing software or provide its own solution.

Graphical based.

Electronic medical software shouldn’t just interact with databases and store and retrieve data. The better EHR software actually presents data in a well organized format, often in graphical charts. Charts help you to spot trends very quickly, so that you can make timely business decisions.

Pricing and technology.

There are several vendors in the marketplace, promoting EHR software. Be sure to check out the pricing, and choose something that is within your budget.

You also want to choose a software that his developed on stable and well recognized platforms such as Java or Windows. Some software vendors develop their applications using proprietary programming languages. This usually makes the applications harder to integrate with other software.

Finally, always ask for a trial or a demo to see how the software actually functions. Clarify any doubts with the vendor and make sure that the software works as promised. Also, as a physician, be prepared to spend time learning the software, and creating templates for your practice. Time is required both from your software vendor, as well as from the doctor and office staff.

One last major factor to consider is how dedicated you as a doctor are to the success of the changeover to EHR Software. Statistics show that physicians who are very involved and committed to EHR software implementation, are the most successful.

Harry C Selent is passionate about helping doctors transition to EHR software. For more information on ehr software or electronic medical records software, please visit our website.

How to Choose a Graphic Design Program

Choosing the right graphic design program can be more complicated — sometimes more complicated than creating the actual designs. However, rummaging through the many design software titles is necessary for professionals.

This article is a start to help you to decide. I have provided a brief list of the top design programs, both for graphic design and website design.

1) Adobe Photoshop: This is one of the best professional photo design software programs on the market. Its main function is photo manipulation, which is the process of using technical and artistic processes to alter an image.

Artistic applications within Photoshop include painting, drawing, touch-up, designing and adding text, and more. You can also edit more than one photo at once using this design software.

For example, Photoshop users can cut parts of photos together and slice and layer them to create a logo or greeting card design. Users can use this program to create website design images; it is also used for creating video effects to use in story line productions (i.e. making movies).

Adobe Photoshop is more advanced. I recommend Adobe Photoshop for the serious user, as it is also quite an investment. Before purchasing, I recommend you download a free trial of Photoshop if it is available.

Professional designers prefer Adobe Photoshop because of the following features:

?Recording custom image actions for batch processing

?Color balance and color match

?Three different masking modes-masked, comps, and quick.

?Smart objects and smart guides

?Advanced fine tuning and control

?CMYK and LAB color modes

?Automated perspective adjustment settings

?Advanced Animation Manipulation

?Flawless photo layering

Don’t let the advanced features overwhelm you at first. To understand why you need Adobe to be a pro designer you can research free tutorials online.

2) Adobe Illustrator: Use this software to create original designs. These designs are often combined with images to create a new masterpiece. However, this program is also useful as a standalone drawing product.

Features of the latest version of Illustrator include outputting different document sizes, speedy scroll and zoom, customized work tools and libraries, anchor tools, and multiple cropping.

In addition, Adobe Illustrator integrates with Flash, and offers mobile device previews. Illustrator helps you to create professional-grade graphics compositions. (If you have ever wondered why your graphics do not come out as professional as professional television commercials, this would be the one product for you.)

3) Adobe Flash (Formerly Macromedia Flash): This software is for creating animation and interactive content for websites.

You can use Flash to create other forms of media as well. Flash works with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and also converts animation files to the recommended AS3 format.

Furthermore, Adobe Flash comes with custom import tools and you can create instant code for your websites. Moreover, Adobe Flash utilizes Action Script 3.0, exports Flash files into QuickTime format, and helps you create mobile content. Additionally, you have the power over how your video will appear online.

4) Corel Photo-Paint: This is an advanced photo editing program with similar functions as Adobe Photoshop. Users can use this program’s touch-up features, live text formatting tools, online font identification/collaboration tools, and extensive file import formatting (RAW format supports over 300 types of cameras).

Corel Photo-Paint also has additional features such as interactive table layout tools, thousands of clip art designs, and precise curves adjustment. This one seems even more advanced than Adobe Photoshop and novices like using it as a steppingstone to learn Photoshop.

Corel does provide over two hours worth of video training for this product. In addition it provides a very thick user guide, and it is possible to receive free lessons for this product online. The best way to learn what this product can do versus free amateur ones would be to test it out.

5) Photoshop Elements: This is another photo design program that users say has at least 99% of the functionality of Adobe Photoshop at a fraction of the price. You may want to find out of that is true for yourself. You can download a free trial of this software as well as a free trial of Photoshop and compare the two. You can also read further reviews online.

6) Corel Draw: This program is used in similar ways as Adobe Illustrator, and it offers both basic and advanced drawing and editing tools. Corel Draw allows you to custom edit shadows, improve the color of your photos, and design your own picture frame.

How to Choose the Right Online Casino Software

Today, there are overwhelming numbers of online casino games and spots to choose from. You will surely find one that will fit your needs and preferences. However, despite the thousands of online casino spots to choose from, there are only a few online casino software companies which make them.

It is seemingly not difficult to choose from online casino venues. People usually choose a spot based exclusively on the games being offered by the site. However, there are other features of online casinos, and one of them is the online casino software used by the venue. There are only about six major online casino software, three of which are Microgaming, Cryptologic and Playtech.

Microgaming is the oldest and the largest online casino software developer and is regarded to be the most reliable and trusted in the industry. However, it also is the most expensive to purchase and consequently, may be expensive to use as well. Cryptologic is popular for its great graphics, real sound and multi-player game features. On the other hand, Play Tech is a fairly recent online software company which offers 3D graphics and sound source that is almost as if you were in a real casino. It also seems to be one of the most widely-used by online casino sites due to its affordability.

Each of these online casino software companies has different ways of presenting online casino games. They usually only present variations of the same games that casino enthusiasts love playing.

Selecting from the online casino software is mostly just a matter of personal preference. It depends largely on the kind of graphics that you want, the quality of the sound that you would like, the user interface that you favor and the ease of use of the software.

Delving into the details, almost all online casino sites give you the liberty to choose among the games that they have, each of which may have been produced by different online casino software developers. While the graphics, sound or user interface are all major factors to help you come down to a decision, there are other factors you may want to consider.

For example, some games have downloadable and web-based versions. In this case, you may want to ask yourself whether you are more comfortable with a web based or a downloadable type. Would you like to play on the computer on the site itself? Or would you prefer to go through the entire process of downloading the software and installing?
