Steps to Creating Your Own Business Icons

Steps to Creating Your Own Business Icons

If you aren’t used to creating your own business icons, then it can be a bit difficult to figure out what exactly you should try to accomplish once you have an idea of what you want. So the question is—how exactly do you create your own business icons and what can you do in order to get the most out of them?

First of all, you need to plan it out. Make a few sketches, make a play-doh representation—whatever it takes in order to create an icon that YOU like. Once you have your icon created, put it in your desk and don’t touch it for a week. Play ping pong, make several giant paper hats out of the newspaper—but don’t touch that icon. Let it sit and simmer. Then, after a week, pull it back out. If you don’t want to change anything, put it back; it’s not quite ready. This isn’t saying that your first icon is bad—it’s just that there’s a very good chance that you’ll want to make changes. If you don’t, you won’t see how you can improve and make it better. It’s best that you make these changes and then look at your icon before and after. If you still really like it, then feel free to use it as it is.

Next, you need to try to experiment with different colors and the like. The most important thing about working with business icons and colors is to try and find something that is well balanced, something that goes together extremely well with your icon, represents your company, AND also allows you to see how the colors work together.

If you don’t want to use colors, try to stick to neutrals such as gray, black, and white. You can even go as far as to use silver—but remember that most silver has a slight bluish tint. If that’s not what you’re looking for, you may want to stick to grey. Keep in mind that if you choose a color such as silver, bronze, or gold that you may want to incorporate a few three-d effects to make the logo look a little bit more realistic. A bit of highlighting or shading never hurt business logos.

You can find all sorts of information and resources online w

Business Icons?Creating the Perfect Icon

So you’re looking at business icons—and you decide that you want to create a great icon, one that people will look at and instantly know what you’re selling, what you stand for, who you represent. It’s a lovely idea and it’s accomplishable—but sometimes you need to stand back and look at the whole picture. What does your company represent and how can you best represent it using an icon? Well, it all starts with a base icon—and here are a few tips for creating a base icon.

First of all, look at your company colors. What colors are extremely prominent in your company? For example, what colors do you have in mind? Well, incorporate them. Try and think of the best combo that you can—for example, if you want to have silver and blue, then you should probably have silver as the color for the details—and the blue as the background, for example. You don’t want to hurt your customer’s eyes—it’ll just end badly for you or else you’ll end up with a bunch of complaints.

Next, try and sketch a few ideas. Don’t just settle on one—take the ones that you have already, let them sit for about a week, and then go back to them. Then try to play with and combine the ones that you’ve already designed. Take your time—this isn’t something that you want to rush through. Examine many different possibilities until you find one that you really like. You have loads of options as far as your icons go—and there are a few other ways that you can spice things up.

You can find hundreds of un-copyrighted images online… but you will more than likely have to buy them. It’s completely worth it—you probably won’t spend more than twenty or so dollars on something that you can use and tweak over and over again. It’s a pretty good deal.

From there, use the images (or create your own) to create your business icons. Take a vote once you have all of your icons lined up and then continue to design them based on any suggestions or anything else of the like that you might have in mind.

Look at other icons for inspiration. Don’t copy them, naturally, but look them over and get a feel as to how they work for the business. What precisely do they represent? What do they make you think of, besides the company? Write down these things in order to get a better feel of what you want your customers to see when they look at your business icons.

You can find loads of information online regarding these icons. Use these resources, if you haven’t already. You have loads of ways that you can create and style your own icons—the main thing to keep in mind is that it should represent your company the best way that you possibly can. This will take a while, but it’s worth the wait.

What graphics software can I use to design Primitive Country Clip Art for web pages and business logos?

Question by curious cat: What graphics software can I use to design Primitive Country Clip Art for web pages and business logos?
I really like the look of the country primitive graphics and would love to know how to make them myself.
Are there tutorials out there that demonstrate how to go about creating such a clip art style….with tips and techniques?
Is one software better than another for this type of usage?
I am not a professional graphics person, but a hobby crafter. So, software for someone without a detailed graphics background might be better.
Any and all info is helpful! Thank you!

Hi…

Really don’t know what exactly is “Primitive Country Clip Art”.

But for your software needs, you might want to check out these two OpenSource softwares for starters.

InkScape is a free Vector Art software, that does ths same things as the costlier Adobe Illustrator.

GIMP is a image editing software, similar to Adobe Photoshop.

You can get the here:

Both have online tutorials and help forums…which I am sure you can easily find.

Hope that helps
