What are the differences between Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4?

Question by starlight_940: What are the differences between Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4?
Hi, I am an avid digital scrapbooker and also design my own digital scrabooking kits. I currently use photoshop CS3, but I am contemplating making the upgrade to CS4. What are the major differences I might notice, and do they make it worth it to make the change? Any info you might have would be very much appreciated!
Also, would I be able to keep all my brushes, patterns, actions, plugins, etc and save them to the new program?

Answer by Bumbleshank
The main difference I can see is the interface, it’s all a bit weird now… It’s like it’s been made for vista users, but it doesn’t look like vista (make sense?? no? thought so!)

I think there’s a couple more effects, but nothing an amature would use (serious pro’s I think)

My CS3 interface’s graphics kept screwing up (menus and things flickering), but I don’t get it in 4.

If you are used to CS3 and have no problems, I’d stick with it… it’s not worth the upgrade cost….

Everything is transferable from CS3 to CS4

Q&A: what is the difference between dreamweaver cs4 and the student edition?

Question by Alright Blad: what is the difference between dreamweaver cs4 and the student edition?
what is the difference between dreamweaver cs4 and the student edition? are there any limitations to what it can do- essentially i want to create websites and put them on the internet. With this can I? because some things don’t allow you to go that far. Would a sixth form student in UK qualify as a student?

Best answer:

Answer by ELfaGeek
The Student version is for “Non-commercial” use only. It’s a learning tool! That means you can’t charge users for designing websites. If that’s what you want to do, you have to BUY the full version.

And yes, if you attend school you qualify for a student version.

For more info, go to the Adobe website.

What is the difference between Photoshop CS3/4 and Elements?

Question by April D: What is the difference between Photoshop CS3/4 and Elements?
I have Photoshop CS3, and would like to know the major differences between that and Photoshop Elements. I RARELY work with photos, and mostly do illustrations using the paint brush, custom shapes, shapes, polygonal lasso, lasso, eraser, and of course the FX. Does elements have all this?

Best answer:

Answer by chocotaste
Okay, for Elements, it has the paint brush and all the brushes that come with Photoshop, it has all the custom shapes that come with Photoshop and lassos, the eraser of course, and by FX, what do you mean? The only real illustration tool Elements doesn’t have is the Pen Tool.

What’s the difference between Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Elements 9?

Question by TAWright: What’s the difference between Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Elements 9?
I want to buy Adobe Photoshop, and I have seen two different ones; CS5 and Elements 9. What are the difference? Elements 9 is cheaper, by about $ 75.
And which is the best one to buy?

Best answer:

Answer by Nahum
Photoshop Elements is fine enough for most casual work.

Regular Photoshop is preferred if you are going to make a career out of graphic design. It offers more options for professional printing, vector paths (that can be used in Illustrator), some more complicated filters and adjustments, can handle larger images, and offers scripting for automated editing.

There are 30-day trials for both programs available. I’d try Elements first to see if you’re able to do everything you need:

Keep in mind that if you don’t have a prior version of Photoshop, you have to buy the full $ 700 version, not the upgrade version.

What’s the difference between Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator?

Question by Waldo: What’s the difference between Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator?
I tried Wikipedia, but it just describes Illustrator as “vector-based drawing program” and photoshop as “graphics editing program” but doesn’t really give a lot of detail of what you can actually do with each. So, what is each best for? Which is better for creating content for web pages?

Best answer:

Answer by R.F.
Both Photoshop and Illustrator are graphics editor, but they edit different types of graphics.

As you saw on Wikipedia, Photoshop is for editing bitmap images–images drawn with tiny dots, or pixels. This is like exact painting where if you resize the image, the dots get bigger or smaller. If they get bigger, the image looks jagged.

Illustrator is for editing vector based images–images that are drawn with mathematical computations. Vector images scale, meaning because the image is mathematically rendered, you can resize it however you want, and it will scale smoothly with no jagged edges.

But neither Photoshop or Illustrator is used for web design. Some graphics designers use Photoshop to create mockups of a web page, but graphic editors do not create web pages.

For web design, the most popular software is Dreamweaver. But seriously, you can use any text editor too.
