Question by Saraa: Looking for tips on Adobe Lightroom 2.6 from an Apple Aperture user.?
I have been using Aperture for a few years now as my photo-editing software program. Last week my Mac crashed for it’s final time, and I broke down and bought a Windows-based PC.
So, I believe the Aperture equivalent is Lightroom. I have spent approximately 8 hours now trying to edit my photos with this program, but I can’t seem to grasp it enough to get the results I’m looking for. I had a deadline of last weekend to deliver these photos to my client.
My question is, does anybody have any quick tips to offer in regards to using Lightroom? Perhaps someone knows of a great tutorial?
Of course I need time to fully learn and appreciate the program, but time is not on my side at this minute, I need to deliver these photos ASAP.

The biggest problems I am having are removing the giant ‘stork bite’ that covers a large portion of the baby’s forehead, removing the orange cast on half of the faces in the photos, whitening eyes and teeth, and adding highlights and shadows.
I also cannot find a proper blur tool. And I can’t figure out how to erase. And finally, I’m unsure as to how Lightroom manages the photos. Does it directly alter the original by default? And does it save to default, and where to?

People wanna know what I think about Adobe Premiere and FCP. Well, this video is NOT meant to upset anyone who uses Adobe products. They make very, very good products. And Im not saying Premiere is NOT a good product either. It is a very good product just as capable as FCP. If you ever watched some of their featured videos like the one with the Iphone or even the Lee Morris wedding photography video you will notice that not only do these guys take awesome pictures, but they also create some awesome BTS videos as well. Patrick Hall from Fstoppers contacted me and asked if I would create step-by-step green screen tutorial for Premiere CS5, and I told him I would be honored. Just a quick disclaimer for those not familiar with me and my site, I’m an amateur and I show all the mistakes I make as I learn how to shoot video on a DSLR. That being said, I have been doing green screen work for about 4 years now, but I am totally self taught – so I am not a pro at this. I use cheap halogen work lights for my setup. First up is my 250watt hair light which provides some depth by providing a nice rim light on my shoulder and hair, I made the barn doors out of sheet metal. Next up is my 1000 watt key light that’s high up and pointing through a window frame made from nylon stop fabric. My fill light is set to 500 watts which also is using the same screen frame. About two years ago my wife discovered that she had a passion for photography, and the good news is she seems to have a naturally ability to take wonderful photos. Therefore, when I upgraded my cell phone a few months ago I knew that access to all the great photos Nicole takes would be important.

Although most of the shots I download will, be taken with a Canon the quality of the iPhones camera is very good. For an amateur like my self it takes very adequate photos and the obvious advantage is it is always in my pocket.

We currently have a windows PC and laptop at home, it is a goal to purchase a Mac for the photography business, so I will detail instructions about the downloading process for both systems.

Most things on your iPhone are managed through iTunes but when it comes to the camera on your phone that is a little bit different.

If you treat the iPhone just like you would any other digital camera you will be on the right track.

You will need to have selected some software to import photos onto the iphone and it will automatically launch when you plug the phone into your computer.

 What Software can I use?

There are many options like Photoshop elements or lightroom,Apples aperture or Adobes Bridge downloader just to name a few. Obviously a few minutes on Google will give you many options and many facts about, the various software offered.

I will forget the fancy options for a minute and provide you with some basic instructions on photo downloading.

Windows User

When you plug your iPhone in the Windows camera wizard should cut in and then it will simply allow you to download the images you have taken to a folder you set up on your computer.

Mac User

For Mac users iPhoto or image capture will launch and ask you if you wish to import your shots.

Any of the above-mentioned programs will allow you to download your photos and do whatever you would like with them. The files will save as JPEG files.

Remember that whatever software you install to import your photos will normally launch automatically.
