Question by D: Hi, can a gradient be applied to text in adobe illustrator CS4 and if so how?
I’m new to the program and I’m typing text over a background image
and the black text and other solid colors are blending in so I thought a gradient would do the trick but the program is letting me apply a gradient to the text.

gotta love illustrator…
-First turn your type into paths, Type>create outlines (or right click for pc’s /ctrl click for macs to bring up extra options)
-After that make sure your gradient box pallet is open. (if not, go to Windows>gradient
-Click on the gradient colored bar inside of the pallet than presto! your type has a gradient to it. You can change the direction of the gradient and insert colors by clicking and dragging from your swatches (there are other ways to change color). You can now also manually add your gradient by using the gradient tool.

Question by **Team Edward Cullen**: Is there a free picture software for pictures that I can download that has this feature?
It makes everything in the pic black & white and you can choose to make something in color. Lets say I have a pic of someone wearing a Santa Claus hat and I wanted the person to be in black & white and I want to hat to be red. What is the software called and can I download it for free? I know some people that have this software, but they don’t want to tell me the name of it. Thanks so much!

So you want Adobe Photoshop and you can’t afford to fork out $ 649 for the software! Here is a free alternative Image Manipulation Program that will cost you… well… Nothing!!!

Typical uses include creating graphics and logos, resizing and cropping photos, altering colors, combining multiple images, removing unwanted image features, and converting between different image formats. It is often used as a free software replacement for Adobe Photoshop, the most widely used bitmap editor in the printing and graphics industries; however, it is not designed to be a Photoshop clone. The project’s mascot is a coyote named Wilber.

Question by nana_puddin_13: How do you create a boundary for text in Photoshop CS5?
Okay, total newb with photoshop but I’m getting accustomed to most of the tools. The current project I am working on is a manual. What I want to do is split a blank page down the middle (not actually, just so I can see it and format it right), and have bounding boxes on both halves of the pages that way the entire manual has a uniform look. I’ve found out how to actually show where the middle of the image is but I need something that will constrict both sides.

maybe select one side and make it a different layer, then you can edit them as different layers then merge them together, i dont know if this helps but i hope it does
