Differentiating Pop Art from Modern Art

Some of the world’s most popular art forms among collectors, fans and novices today are Pop Art and Modern Art. These two forms of art are typically found widely around the globe in homes and in personal collections as well as in museums and galleries more than all other forms of art combined. Because Pop Art and Modern Art can be found in a variety of styles and mediums, anyone can find the right piece to accentuate their home of office as long as they know what they are looking for.

Unfortunately, there are many people who do not know the difference between the two art styles, and many believe them to be the same, though this is not the case.  It takes time to learn the differences between the two and to recognize one from another, but once you have learned this you will feel that it was not that difficult after all.

The Pop Art movement began during the mid 1950’s in Britain, and later moved to the United States near the end of the 1950’s. Pop Art is created using reality and familiar objects and sights as inspiration, but puts the realistic item in an unusual place or changes it in a way that is not all that common or not widely known. Pop Art is known for bright colors and paintwork, strong, bold lines, and sometimes used in the design of comic books, advertisement, and consumer goods.

Giving off emotions and attitude, and representing pop culture, Pop Art was considered controversial and non-artistic when it was first created. Now more accepted, Pop Art is highly coveted my art lovers and collectors.

Completely different from Pop Art, Modern Art focuses on a specific era in time between the 1860’s, and the 1970’s. Modern Art is represented by ‘mood’ or the emotion it inflicts on the viewer, depicting sadness, joy, love, regret, etc. This line of art ‘doesn’t follow the rules’, and is viewed as abstract art. Artists of Modern Art used this method to express themselves and portray specific events, people, and the way they viewed every day life in their artwork.

Modern Art created today may use the same style and mediums of the original Modern Art, but now it is mostly referred to as contemporary or postmodern art. You can’t truly call a piece ‘modern art’ unless it was created in the time frame of the early 1860’s and late 1970’s. True, original art with the Modern art style is still very sought after, though it may not be worth as much.

Both types of art, modern art, and Modern Art are extremely popular these days, though both are completely different. In fact, Modern Art was created as a rebel result to modern art. Collectors worldwide crave both types for their collections, and novice collectors should be able to tell the difference between the two.

Now you can also use the Internet as a valuable tool for your research and your learning process on Modern Art and Pop Art.

The Art of Hanging Art

Hanging art is often an overlooked final layer to the success of your room’s interior and can just as easily be the inspiration for a room suggesting a certain mood.

There really are no rules for hanging art. What really count is “the eye of the beholder.” (Yours!)

Pleasing wall arrangements follow the same principles of design that you follow for placing furniture in a room.

One of those principles is balance, which refers to the distribution of the visual weight within a display.
An arrangement that lacks balance may seem too top or bottom heavy or as if the side is falling.

A symmetrical arrangement where each half is the mirror image of the other is the most straight forward and probably easiest to achieve.

To achieve balance when working with a group of pieces of different sizes and scale, imagine a grid on the wall of four quadrants making sure each area is equal visually.

Artwork and other objects that you hang on your walls can demand that certain pieces be displayed by themselves.

Anything large or over scaled will need its own space to show off. Artwork that is dark, bright, or boldly patterned will appear heavier and bigger than an object that is small or pale.

It is best to display these weightier items next to similarly weighty elements in the room like furniture or architectural features.

It is also important to leave enough bare (negative) space around the pieces you are hanging for your pieces to breathe and for the eye to focus.

The repetition of a single object can create a dramatic display. This method is effective for an inexpensive show of ordinary items (wallpaper samples, seed packets, even pages from a magazine) of the same size and framed identically.

If the subject matter is the same, hanging art of identically framed items in a grid creates an impact and should be hung closer together than pieces of different sizes and shapes.
The unity of a display of this manner catches your attention and draws you in for a closer look.

Before actually putting the first nail in the wall, work out your arrangement on the floor. Generally the largest item starts in the center. Working your way out, play around with the composition by seeing how each piece relates to each other. You may choose to use paper cutouts.

Balance the smaller pieces on the larger either vertically or horizontally. Place them close together, about two inches apart, so when you stand away from the arrangement it forms a whole.

Tips for Hanging Art

Incorporate other elements into an arrangement like brackets, mirrors or a collection of plates.
Plates also work well for filling in a narrow or oddly shaped space like over a doorway or on the side of a tall piece of furniture.
Hang art 60 – 66″ from the floor for “eye level” to most and hang so the bottom of the artwork is 5 – 8″ above a piece of furniture.
Consider color but keep in mind that your art doesn’t have to match your sofa.
Frame your art for art’s sake and not for the room. The proper frame will work almost anywhere you want to hang it and gives you freedom to move things around.
Place picture framing wire about a third of the way down each side.
As a rule, the mat size for prints and drawings should be 3 inches wide but do take into consideration the size of the artwork.
Use two nails to hang a piece if you don’t want it to move, placed about 5 inches in from the frame’s edge.
Using bumpers on the bottom corners will protect your walls.
Hang frames directly on top of the paper cutouts (if you used them) then pull out the paper.
When hanging art in a hallway only hang on one side.
Hang art on patterned wallpaper if the art is of a different scale and is visually stronger than the background, with a mat to distinguish the image from the wall.

But if you are not into hanging at all, prop a large piece against a wall or layer small over a larger piece on a mantel.

And most importantly trust your instincts!

Silhouette Style Portraits

Personal portraits are a great way of enhancing room décor with your own individual style. There are various ways of creating designer portraits, and silhouette styled portraits are a stylish way of doing so. These portraits highlight the basic outline of the person rather than facial details, giving way to an unusual style of art.

Traditional silhouette style

The silhouette style of portraiture has been popular since many ages, with this style being predominant on Roman era coinage. At that time, images were usually cut out of a black card, a method that is still followed prominently. Other ways of creating silhouettes including painting on mediums, or on reverse in glass, hollow-cutting of images out of the medium and pasting them. The form was also seen frequently  in the mid 18th century, though the term silhouette  was not employed. Pictures at that time would comprise of the basic outline of the person, filled in with black colour. The form lost its popular stance during the invention years of the camera, and came back to popularity only with advertising campaigns and pop art.

Emergence of new era silhouettes

One advertising campaign that really brought silhouette images to life was that of Apple iPod. The advertisements featured popular rock start Eminem and other models in silhouette style. Only the iPods were made visible in the campaign. Soon after the campaign, various pop artists, inspired from the advertisement and previous versions of silhouette art, started creating versions. The style of creating silhouettes also evolved from being simply a cut and paste job to a photo-development technology. Advent of the digital cameras made technologies much more accessible to people.

Various artists love to play with silhouette colour combinations, resulting in amazing styles that are great for home décor. Various versions of the style are also made available. One of these is the detailed silhouette style, where facial features are made more obvious in the portrait, giving the resemblance of dim lighting conditions. Unlike ordinary digital photographs, pop art silhouettes combine the artistic intellect with new age technologies, creating an amazing amalgamation of style and structure.

Unlike common misconception that silhouettes do not give a clear image of the person, various researchers’ opinions differ. In fact, it is possible to note the gender, age and facial features of the person from the silhouette alone. Experts also state, that this form of art is great for visual media like photographs, movies, theater and also graphic design. How Technology Has Affected Art

Some people might say that art is dying. Art has changed completely over the course of time. It is a rare breed to find a portrait artist that can make a living from his work. Portrait painting is just not as popular as it once was which means that great portraits are hard to come by. Others would argue that art is just as popular, but not in the same forms as the past. People have changed from making marble statues and sculptures to graphic designs and movies. Art can take many different forms. It is all just a matter of how you view it.

Technology has changed a lot over the course of art history. Certain things can only be as nice as the tools that you have to use. Making a sculpture with outdated tools will seriously limit your capabilities. So in a world where many devices are so readily available, it is easier for those who do sculpt to have the best technology. Another way in which technology has changed art is developing new forms. The best example of that is graphic design. Now in the modern world of computers, people can create images through different programs that are truly captivating. Some would argue that it is not really art because the programs can give so much assistance. You do need to have that creative mind and eye to develop any type of art, whether it is by hand or computer.

Movies are a much debated form of art. Many movies can be classified as great works of art because of the different filming techniques and special effects that are used. The way that films can evoke such emotions makes them truly something special. If you or someone you know is skeptical of films as art, indie films or older movies usually serve as great examples. These are all about the true art of film making, not about making money like many of the major Hollywood movie companies. Sometimes you see how the whole public can appreciate the artistic nature of a movie. On special occasions an indie film will breakthrough and have popular success across the nation. These are the types of films that really reach the people.

One thing that is hard to argue is the importance of art. It speaks to the culture of an era. Art shows not only how the human mind thinks and works, but how the world has affected the people at that time. Art is full of feeling, whether it is the pain or happiness in a person’s heart. It is a way for future generations to get a feel of the people that had come before them. There would be something seriously wrong with humanity if we let art die.

Connor R. Sullivan has been searching for the perfect portrait artist to give to his wife a portrait of their children as an anniversary gift. His love of portrait painting extends to when he was a young man and painted historic portraits of wartime in America.

Learning at Art School Online

Learning art online properly is totally possible, with a condition that you do your homework properly. You can find numerous prestige schools by looking for its imformation and review on the Internet.

There are many benefits with studying online. You can study at the your chosen school or college without having to stay there, you can still live at your home. You can study whenever it fits you, a good thing if you have to work or have children to attend to. You can get basically as much teaching and information from studying online, if you choose the right school.

An online art school should contain just about the same as a “live” education, depending on how long and intense it is. you should be able to learn different techniques, take idea and concept based courses, at least one course in art theory and history. Personal tutoring from teachers is important as well. You have to be able to get response and feedback on your progress, otherwise it’s hard to develop your skills and ideas.

Some educations offer a degree and some just diplomas. It depends on the level on it, and how much time and money you are able to put in. if you are aiming on a degree in fine arts on a professional level, you have to take a college course and that will cost more for you in time and money investment. If you want to take some courses to learn new techniques or just for a hobby, you can take shorter single theme courses. It all depends on your needs.

The one thing to keep in mind is to fulfill your dreams. A fine or graphic art education can be something many people would advice against, but I’m of the opposite opinion. You have to try out your dreams how else would you know what your purpose in life is?

Wall Art – Get Inspired

If you are the kind of person who often finds yourself lacking in inspiration, you have to wonder why that is. For many people, the answer is to blame their surroundings. They might just feel that they live in a boring town or that they are surrounded by boring people. The truth of the matter, however, is that you must understand that you are responsible for your own environment. This doesn’t mean that you need to drastically rearrange your life, but it does mean that you might want to consider changing the way your primary environment looks. When we talk about your primary environment, we are talking of course about your home. A great way to begin is with wall art.

For many people, the idea of wall art is not going to sound very appealing. There is a very good reason for this. When most people hear this term, they think of cheesy little knickknacks and figurines. They might imagine photographs of sunsets and pictures of their favorite sports teams. If this is what you had in mind, then you need to take a different approach. You might want to instead consider something more interesting, such as oil paintings. These are beautiful paintings that are by the master painters, such as Vermeer, Van Gogh, and Monet.

If you know even the smallest bit about the art market, then you probably understand that this kind of wall art is completely out of your price range. Unless you are a billionaire, chances are pretty slim of your being able to afford an original Monet. The truth of the matter is that you can have this work, but you might have to settle for a replica. These are not prints. Prints are flat and don’t have nearly as much life to them. Oil paintings that are replicas of some of the great works of art, however, can be inspiring, intriguing, and though provoking. They can really pull you out of a slump.

If you are interested in using some of this inspiring wall art, you will want to make sure that you go online. There are not many great replica artists in the world, so you should be sure that you go on the internet where you can be sure to find the very best. You will find that you have a number of great masters to choose from. You will be able to look at the works and even learn a little about the works from reading customer testimonials.

Fine Art Photography- An Abstract Art

Light is considered to be one important element in photography that helps in giving different effects on photos. Photos taken in natural light or in warm glow of incandescent light, the camera captures the effect of light on the objects and subjects. Though light is an integral part of every type of photography, in fine art photography it plays an important role in setting the mood and giving the texture to its subjects and props. Professional photographer understands how the lens and eye perceive the light color spectrum and therefore make complete use of light in photography. Natural light due to its inconsistent lighting projects different shades of the color spectrum. At midday, the blue portion of the color spectrum produces the clearest, sharpest pictures in bright light. Where as, at sunrise and sunset the red portion of the spectrum produces warmer pictures with a softer contrast. The direction of lighting in photography helps in creating different effects on the pictures. The different angles of light create different shadows and helps in changing the appearance of the subject. Different types of artificial lights like bulbs, tube lights, florescent lights and LED lights on panorama fixtures create different types of lighting environments and produces different effects.

Since fine art photography is related to art and is dedicated in producing pictures for aesthetic purposes, light is the core of this type of photography. Red Film Review Online

Red has perhaps the best collection of actors ever to star in an action adventure movie. The film is great entertainment and the acting is superb.

Bruce Willis stars as Frank Moses, a retiree trying to live a normal life in a quiet suburban neighborhood. This is a big change from his days as a highly trained black-ops CIA agent. Frank spends his days tending to his house and yard. He also spends time on the phone with a federal pension employee named Sarah (played by Mary-Louise Parker). He calls her on a regular basis to report missing government pension checks which really arent missing .. but Frank and Sarah simply enjoy talking to each other. They eventually agree that Frank will travel to where Sarah lives in Kansas City and go on a blind date.

The next night Frank is attacked in his home as he goes downstairs for a drink. A team of assassins wearing body armor and carrying machine guns have busted into his house to kill him. At the end of a fantastic extended fight scene all the assassins lay dead and Frank doesnt know who they were or what is going on. All he knows for sure is that they were professionals.

He then discovers that his phones were bugged, and figures that whoever is after him will probably go after Sarah for information next. He immediately goes to Kansas City, but instead of going on that blind date he kidnaps her in order to protect her.

Through a too-convenient event, Frank learns that a secret group inside the agency wants him and his ex-covert cohorts dead. Unbeknownst to Frank, he and his old team have information that could blow open a coverup of war crimes that occurred in Guatemala.

Frank reassembles his former covert team in an attempt to destroy this unseen enemy. They too have all retired, and like Frank are referred to within the CIA as REDs, which is an acronym for Retired: Extremely Dangerous. The actors playing these characters are truly A-list.

First on the list is Joe Matheson (played by Morgan Freeman), an intelligence expert now terminally ill with stage 4 liver cancer. Frank finds Joe living in a nursing home in New Orleans. Depressed that he is now old, Joe is happy to get back into the fray for one last assignment.

Next to be contacted is Marvin Boggs (played by the great John Malkovich), a skilled ex-agent who long ago was an unknowing recipient of LSD experiments conducted by the CIA. As a result Boggs now a neurotic, paranoid survivalist who lives in a camouflaged underground bunker. Malkovich is just fantastic in this role. He and Willis have great onscreen chemistry, and his nervous ticks and facial expressions are perfect.

The last two ex-agents to be contacted are Ivan (played by Brian Cox), a retired ex-KGB agent during the cold-war and Victoria (played by the forever beautiful Helen Mirren), a formidable assassin during her days as an MI6 agent.

With the group reassembled, Frank goes hunting for the shadowy figures trying to kill them.

From this point you just sit back and enjoy the ride as these actors (also including Ernest Borgnine and Richard Dreyfuss) take over. The action is non-stop and the dialog is smart, sharp and funny. Exactly what you would expect from the most decorated cast ever to appear in a single action-adventure film.
